KHSAA Football Finals Moved to UK for 2017 & 2018

Recommended Posts

Maybe, maybe not but discussion about this has always focused on people's selfish intentions around the location. I'm definitely getting my selfish intentions out in the open as well. If I am going to take time out of my day to spend time and money on an event I want it my way or my money stays in my pocket.

I definitley get that. A lot of people feel the same way. I still think the finals will be more successful in Lexington.

I live about 30 minutes from WKU and I went to some of the finals the first few years it was there. Usually went to see the 4A title game (since FS is in 4A) and whatever other games were played the same day. Last few years I just watched them online except when FS played this year. I would have gone to more games had they not been available online. Won't make much difference to me because I'll still go to UK if FS makes it back there, but won't go otherwise.

Does anyone know if attendance has dropped since the games have become available to watch on the internet?

Hate to see the games move from WKU. With Western in CUSA championships, logistics have been a bear. UK should be able to handle the teams better than WKU. The Kroger bowl is way too big for the championships but do we get fuel points for attending?

It will be interesting to see what attendance is over a 2 or 3 year span compared to what we've had at WKU. You can't look at just one year as teams and weather can impact that but over a few years we should be able to tell if this works out for the better or worse from an attendance perspective.

I think it will be for the better. I can tell if last year state finals where in Lexington last year. I would have went to the 1A and 6A games.

Something to think about maybe the conference USA championship the same weekend had something to do with it.

Clearly. That's been the point all along.

There would have been little to no discussion from the KHSAA regarding movement had the C-USA championship game not been an issue.

I actually think some states might have 2 different venues.

For some reason, North Carolina sticks out as one. I think they play half the games at Wake Forest and the other half at NC State.

Want a list?

For same-year-two-stadium-or-more states:

Oregon (mostly Corvallis {OSU} and Hillsboro}

California (5 games at Sacramento State, the others are around the state)

Nevada (Can play anywhere, at high schools or Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas or at U of Nevada in Reno)

Arizona (Largest at U of Phoenix Stadium, the rest in suburban Phoenix or Flagstaff)

New Mexico (plays at any venue available, each game different)

Colorado (biggest games at Mile High, the rest in Aurora, Colorado)

Idaho (games played at Holt Arena in Pocatello, Albertson Stadium in Boise, and some other venues depending on teams and availability, also possibly Moscow, Idaho's Kibbie Dome)

Montana (all games played at highest seed, neutral site only if agreed due to travel)

Kansas (Each game is at a different college around the state, pre-set by class)

Oklahoma (formerly one location, now at random places around state for each game)

Illinois (plays at one venue, but alternates each year between U of I and Northern Illinois)

Mississippi (plays at one venue, but alternates each year between MSU and Ole Miss)

Alabama (plays at one venue, but alternates each year between Auburn and U of A)

South Carolina (Biggest games at U of SC, smaller games at Benedict College, also in Columbia)

North Carolina (games played at three sites: UNC, NC State, and Wake Forest. 8 games, 4 at two and 2 at one)

Virginia (6 games, played at three venues: Salem, U of Va, and Hampton Roads area, two games each)

New Jersey (23 championships played at 4 stadiums. 10 at MetLife Stadium, 4 at Rutgers, 4 at Kean University in Union, and 5 at Rowan U in southern Jersey)

Connecitcut (it's changed a lot, but around the state usually, no set locations, their titles are also real late in the year)

Maine (one game at U of Maine, rest are usually in Portland)

Games at one venue:

Washington - Tacoma Dome in Tacoma

Utah - U. of Utah, Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City

Wyoming - U of Wyoming, War Memorial Stadium in Laramie

Texas - AT&T STadium, Arlington (UIL/Public schools only)

Nebraska - U. of Nebraska, Memorial Stadium, Lincoln

South Dakota - U of South Dakota, Dakota Dome, Vermillion

North Dakota - North Dakota State, Fargo Dome, Fargo

Minnesota - US Bank Stadium, Minneapolis

Wisconsin - U of Wisconsin, Camp Randall Stadium, Madison

Iowa - U. of Northern Iowa, UNI-Dome, Cedar Falls

Missouri - Missouri State, Springfield (formerly in St. Louis at Edward Jones Dome)

Arkansas - War Memorial Stadium, Little Rock (U of Ark plays some games there)

Louisiana - Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans

Tennessee - Tennessee Tech, Cookeville

Ohio - Ohio State, Ohio Stadium, Columbus (returning to Canton next year for 2 years)

Pennsylvania - Hersheypark Stadium, Hershey (at an amusement park outside capital Harrisburg)

West Virginia - Wheeling Island Stadium, Wheeling (Wheeling Park's stadium located in a casino parking lot)

Maryland - Naval Academy, Navy Stadium(?), Annapolis

Delaware - U of Delaware, Newark

New York - Syracuse U., Carrier Dome, Syracuse (publics only)

Vermont - Rutland HS, Rutland

New Hampshire - U of New Hampshire, Wildcat Stadium, Durham

Massachusetts - Gillette Stadium, Foxborough (Interesting Note Below)

Rhode Island - Cranston HS, Cranston Stadium, Cranston

Michigan - Ford Field, Detroit

Indiana - Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis

Georgia - Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta (new stadium, formerly at Georgia Dome)

Florida - Camping World Stadium, Orlando (formerly called the Citrus Bowl)

Alakaska - Anchorage Municipal Stadium, Anchorage (where Anchorage HS's play)

Hawaii - Usually at UH's Aloha Stadium, but I believe they can play others on other islands

*INTERESTING NOTE ABOUT MASSACHUSETTS*

Massachusetts formerly had regional championships (East, Central, and West), but recently began holding a 'combined' championship. All six championships are held at Gillette Stadium on the same day. They start at 9am. The unusual fact is that instead of playing 12 minute quarters, they play 10 minute quarters to get all six games done on the same day.

Now if they can just make the finals the week before or the week after the Ohio finals, I could make it to Lexington for the games.

I doubt that's happening unless Ohio moves their games back. But the 15-game season is here to stay and I don't see Ohio starting another week earlier.

Loved the games at WKU! Great place to watch a game!

But WKU/CUSA disrupted things too much right now.

I am a big proponent that the games should continually change locations over time.

UK, UofL, Eastern and Western should all have a turn at hosting on a revolving schedule IMO as that would spread the wealth so to speak and allow different fans a closer drive but not every time and others the longest drive but not every time.

If you love football and you love your team, you will be there. No Matter Where It Is!

Don't know about other states but VA plays a couple of theirs at Liberty in Lynchburg.
