Let's ask the players whether they'd rather play at WKU or UK/UL. None of the stadiums have ever been full, and I've never been to a state final where the "atmosphere" was so pronounced that it was even remotely impactful on the game.

 

Nobody said that it affected the games or the kids. I am sure anyone that makes it will be excited regardless of where you play it. Just saying that it made for a better atmosphere.

I've never been into the atmosphere thing but I liked the games at old cardinal stadium a lot more than I ever did Western, it's just my opinion but everything about Western was a hassle for me I even liked Papa John's better than Western.

I think the parents and fans care more as to where the game is played than the players. For myself, where the game is played was never a reason to want to play in a state championship..I'd be happy playing the game in a parking lot.

I would like for 1, 2, 3 A to be at EKU and 4, 5, 6A at UK

Although it will be something new and exciting, the size of the venue was better at WKU. Expect a cavernous stadium for most of the games.

While in the 1960s and early 1970s the KHSAA used to play the A and AA championships in Lexington and the AAA in Louisville, I can't imagine a modern situation where the state finals would be split between venues.

1. WKU is and has been better at football than UK for a while now. UK hardly holds a football mystique. Any kid that signs with WKU these days would fully expect to beat UK if the Cats would ever be willing to schedule them again.

 

2. The Boyle-Allen Co. game in 2010 was probably the best Finals atmosphere any of us have ever seen. The only thing close I can remember is the Male-Trinity game in the snow.

 

All that said, I think a change of scenery will at least spice things up. I'm looking forward to it.

From comments I've heard the commissioner make in person, the KHSAA couldn't afford the schedule adjustments that came with hosting at Western. They wanted the schedule to be in stone from the get-go. Adjusting last minute based on the results of the WKU/Marshall game isn't a great way to do business. From what he has said, they liked playing at Western and working with the administration, but it wasn't practical to wait so late to set the schedule. That, by the way, was the driving reason for leaving Louisville years ago as well.
