Sportsfan 99
Highschools stats are a joke, I've talked to many College coaches and only one out ten have asked for stats. True. Stats aren't always the best source of information. But it my personel opinion I think Sexton is the better hitter. Laumann is a great hitter and actually they might even be about the same kind of hitter but by no stretch of the mind do I think that Laumann or Sexton is on another level than each other. marley
I think Sexton is the better hitter after watching both in a showcase at Midland.
marley
I just talked to Sexton's Hitting coach and he has been hitting with alot more power than he hit with last year.
futurecoach
So why should CovCath get so much respect you ask? Lets see 24 straight years of 20 or more wins in a season and CovCath has never played a cupcake schedule to get those 20 wins. District Champions 1948, 1954, 1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1967, 1969, 1970, 1973, 1975, 1982, 1985, 1986, 19871989, 1991, 1992, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 9th Region Champions 1967, 1970, 1985, 1987, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2005 Semi-State Champions 1985, 2002 State Champions 2002 Oh and I didn't realize that CovCath lost just about everybody from last years (2010) team but then again I only attended every game but two! Maybe you were thinking of 09 when indeed they lost everybody sans Logan Siemer and Neil Martin but still made it to the semi-finals in the Ninth Region. Wow! I didn't realize that CovCath had won the district 6 years in a row from 1998 to 2003. That is quite the accomplishment, because even with all these great programs up here. You hardly see any team win a district 6 years in a row. That must have been some team, whoever that small little school was (Ludlow) that ended their run as District Champions, by beating them in the 1st round of the district. Sorry I couldn't resist. However that is amazing what they have done over all these years under their Coach. He is an amazing coach, and what they have done should automatically give them respect. Every year they really should be a team, that people talk about as a team that could do something in 9th region. :thumb:
oldtimeballer
Most of the players that have been discussed here have played with or against each other for a few years ( a lot play summer ball on the same teams)and I think it would be interesting to hear what the players themselves think. Which schools will be the favorites and who are the top players? Players we know you are watching and some posting so be honest and make your picks, as I believe you know more about each other then any of us. What does that have to do with anything going on this year? I have nothing against CCH, just don't see them as the favorite in the 35th. If you have attended all these games then tell me why CCH deserves to be the favorite over HC and Beechwood?
marley
Come on, CovCath has ruled the 35th district because one they have more boys to choose from then any of the Schools in their district beside maybe Holmes. That would be like putting Highlands football in the same District as Dayton, Bellevue, Newport and Campbell County I'm not saying what they have done isn't an accomplishment because it is, but they should win it every year. I would love to see what the Coach in FT. Mitchell would have done with all the talent they have had, when was the last time a CovCath team had to start an eightgrader in right field and a freshman in left field and still won 20 plus games. Blow your horn all you want it does help being the big kid on the block. GO TIGERS

marley
CCH has 8th graders? That right they don't, my bad they just have more boys than HC and Beechwood has Boys and girls.

Clyde
Regarding CCH I'm curious as to who their stopper/big game pitcher will be. It may not be the same at the end of the season as it is on day 1. Arnzen? Hellman? Maile? Shumate?
Sportsfan 99
I would say Arnzen and Shumate would be their #1 and #2 this year.
Less Than Zero
I think not having a "stud" pitcher is the coaches biggest concern. Shumate has the potential and they love Arnzen's mental makeup. What they do have is a lot depth with Hellman, Severson, Fagel, Maile, Tomlin and IMO 2 real sleepers in Best and Ward. They will have a really nice defensive team for sure, above average offense and the best team speed they've had in a long time. I'm curious as to HC's pitching depth. Can someone answer please. I know Beechwood has pitching. They should be the favorite but I can see either of the other two winning this district also.
changeup
Marley, Beechwood winning 20 games and Cov. Cath winning 20 games are two different stories. Go back and look at both school's schedules.
theshack13
Nobody is talking about Dixie and I think they like it that way. Last year all the talk was about Dixie and look what ended up happening. Well since everybody on here isnt talking about them I'll say something about them. Believe it or not they will be very good still. They have senior leadership out of Popham, Sexton, Dematteo, Abeling and Barnhorst. They have a very, very good group of juniors coming up who finished the JV season last year with an impressive 20-5 record. Sexton will lead the hitting and be at the top of the pitching staff while Dematteo and Abeling are locking up the middle. And Popham like always will be securing the leadoff spot and be solid behind the plate. The Juniors that I think will have a huge impact on Dixies season are Corey Garrett and Clayton McKinney. They are both outfielders who can hit with anyone at the varsity level. They are both also very sound pitchers. Dixie will surprise alot of people this season and will have just as good as a chance to win the region as anyone this season.
