Rolen worries me at 3rd. He made it through this season in good health. Which leads me to doubt he can pull it off two seasons in a row.

Francisco's best friend the next couple of years needs to be Rolen. That would be huge dividends if he learns his game from Rolen. The power and bat skills are there. The glove and the professional manner in which he handles himself needs to be groomed. Who better for that then Scott Rolen...

I'm going to add Cabrera to this conversation. Left side of the infield will be a combined 72 years old next year. That may not work out.

I agree, but feel much better about Janish as a replacement than any replacement we have over on the hot corner. Who is it? Cairo? Francisco?

Those are the Free Agents for the upcoming season at the positions the Reds may possibly be looking at....

Top needs for the Reds IMO:

Back up 3rd baseman. No way you can count on Rolen to play healthy all year.

LF- Gomes just isn't a starter.

I think they'll also look to see what Alonso and Volquez can get. Maybe a solid top of the rotation guy, which is something they need bad.

SS is a position they also need to look at.

Should be interesting to see what needs they address. They don't have the money to get guys, but certainly have the prospects to deal.

The Reds' pressing needs are left field and shortstop. Cabrera wasn't even that good in his one season and doesn't need to be back. I don't know that they need to sign a proven starter (Janish's glove is good enough to handle it) as much as they need someone that is capable of playing the position for an extended length of time.

Left field ... Gomes doesn't need to be invite back. The Reds have gotten more mileage out of him than they had any right to expect.

Alonso and a pitcher could bring them something decent for either spot, but would the Reds be better off waiting to see if he gets off to a quick start in Louisville next year and up his value a little more?
