I still don't see Janish as an everyday player but at least with this move they have a vet that can play the position should Janish falter and can probably field other positions should the need arise. No way Renteria can take over full time like Cabrera did. You saw when it did to him, he broke down big time at the end of the year. Janish is going to play 5 days a week. Renteria was on the DL 3 times last year and had another period of 10 days that he missed. I don't see him starting more than 50-60 games.
January 30, 201115 yr Reds and pitcher Edinson Volquez have come to terms on a one-year deal for 1.6 Mil.
January 30, 201115 yr Volquez signed for $1.6 million to avoid arbitration. From Volquez's perspective, a 1 year deal is the best situation for him. He has been pretty good when healthy, but he's not going to get the contract that he's actually "worth" since he's spent so much time on the DL.
January 31, 201115 yr I think the X factor to the Reds season has to be Volquez this year. If he could return to form and win 15+ games, I think the Reds are another playoff bound team.
