I wouldn't have a problem with that ... Janish is far superior defensively, at this point in time.

We'll see what happens later on in the season. I still don't see Janish as an everyday player but at least with this move they have a vet that can play the position should Janish falter and can probably field other positions should the need arise.

 

No way Renteria can take over full time like Cabrera did. You saw when it did to him, he broke down big time at the end of the year. Janish is going to play 5 days a week. Renteria was on the DL 3 times last year and had another period of 10 days that he missed. I don't see him starting more than 50-60 games.

I'd love to see Renteria get a lot of work in at third this offseason...

Reds and pitcher Edinson Volquez have come to terms on a one-year deal for 1.6 Mil.

Volquez signed for $1.6 million to avoid arbitration. From Volquez's perspective, a 1 year deal is the best situation for him. He has been pretty good when healthy, but he's not going to get the contract that he's actually "worth" since he's spent so much time on the DL.

I think the X factor to the Reds season has to be Volquez this year. If he could return to form and win 15+ games, I think the Reds are another playoff bound team.
