Lex Cath has to find a replacement for QB Jackson Wasik, who will be playing at Centre College this season. Wasik threw all but 7 of the team's 289 pass attempts last season, and he was only 52 rushing yards behind the team's top rusher, Joaquin Pereira, who returns for his junior year along with second-best rusher Alex Rayyan who returns as a senior. With a talented receiving corps, as usual, Lex Cath will have #1 receiver Jackson Kreutzer, #2 receiver Matthew Kern and #5 receiver Kaylib Nelson all returning as seniors. The trio accounted for 99 receptions, 1,567 yards receiving, and 19 touchdowns last season - that's a quarter of the team's 2023 touchdowns.

On defense, Brady Wasik led the team in tackles last year as a sophomore linebacker, and he will be back as a junior this year. Linebacker John Moses was second in tackles and will return for his senior year, along with DB Matthew Kern who was fourth in tackles, LB Aiden Pflunger who was sixth.

I really enjoyed watching the QB last season. I wish him nothing but the best! I think if Lexington Catholic will be fine, tuff team IMO.

Me too. He was literally Knocked out during the Highlands game last year and came back the next series like nothing happened. A warrior! LexCath seems like they will have a very nice team in 2024. I will have to make sure I am there in Ft Thomas when they Visit in August.

Coach Baisch was an excellent guest on our podcast!

Anybody know what ever happened to the Bluegrass Bowl at Lex Cath? I realize there are a couple-few bowl games in Kentucky that go back to the 1950s or 1960s, but the Bluegrass Bowl has to go back to like the 1980s, give or take. I don't think it's been played in the last 4 or 5 seasons, if I'm remembering correctly.

It wasn’t profitable.

Ahhh, gotcha. Yeah, I've always wondered what amount of effort was required to make bowl games stay solvent and profitable. I realize the bowl stipend paid out to the competing teams can be a plus when the price is right - especially for smaller or struggling programs - but with all that the AD's and coaches have on their plates already, it's always made me wonder how much a of a hassle there is for hosting programs when it comes to (A) finding sponsors for the bowl, and then (B) finding good teams to come and compete and make it an interesting occasion.

Plus then if the visiting teams are traveling any kind of distance, it's always made me wonder what the gate profits are like for games like that. I can say that personally, I only went to the Bluegrass Bowl one of the three or four times Cov Cath played in it. And then with the Pike County Bowl in 2021 and 2022, I'd have had to take a day off work to even consider going to the game...so I was among a lot of fans whose consideration for attending those games was a non-starter. Hell, even with the half-dozen or times Cov Cath played in the Crosstown Showdown over at UC's Nippert Stadium, I only went once just because of the hassle of getting over there and finding parking on campus plus the added price for the ticket.

It's a little bit of a bummer not seeing the slightly more interesting non-district matchups that the Bluegrass Bowl used to facilitate, but I certainly can't say I blame anybody at Lex Cath for throwing in the towel when it comes to that.
