Name a historically democratic run city that is doing well, doesn't run a deficit, has low crime and isn't hemorrhaging jobs. Live in one of those and you want be able to afford the baloney.

Name a red state in the South that isn't receiving more in tax support from the feds that they pay in.

You forgot she's black. Might as well play the race card as well.

Not saying that you feel that way(because I don't think you do), but surely you will admit that there is a segment of our population that never liked the fact that two African Americans lived in "their" White House. It's not wrong to bring up the race card when race is clearly still highly relevant in our society.

You know, it is possible to disagree with someone's policies without insulting the education of a woman who is one of the most educated First Ladies we have ever had. She's probably smarter than him and you should be worried if she ever thought about public office.

Excellent post. We need more and more strong, educated women in power. They would do a much better job than the lousy men have done.

It Looks Like Red States Take Most in Federal 'Welfare' from this Map. But Looks Can Be Deceiving.

In addition, the southern red states in the initial map of federal aid recipients are much more likely to have higher poverty rates. The impoverished, those who are more likely to need federal aid in a state, tend to vote Democratic according to Pew Research:

When it comes to choosing a party’s candidate in the voting booth, one pattern in modern American politics is so familiar it has become a truism: the rich vote Republican, the poor vote Democratic. And while the reality of the situation is much more nuanced, in broad strokes it has been the case that Republicans have consistently garnered disproportionate levels of support from the financially well-off, while the least financially secure Americans have been significantly more likely to back Democrats.

In other words, due in part to low voter turnout among the impoverished, it may not be that the majority of constituents who vote to turn a state “red” are the ones causing a state to have a higher level of federal aid in its state budget. Another way of putting this is that the majority of poor people who are reliant upon federal aid to make ends meet may not be voting majority Republican in a given state.

The point is: Don't simply judge a state by its cover. There are numerous complexities that underlie statistics, and these complexities must be explored in order to make informed opinions.

Bingo!!! And what's more, she's a strong, well-educated black woman who had the audacity to eat off White House china. Just sayin'...for some that is a source of frustration.

You seem to be the only one on this thread that is concerned with her race. Hmmmm.

Then don't judge cities either. Let's just say that the Dems are not trying to stop prosperity and the freedom to pursue it

If government policies were judged based on results, as opposed to intent, then liberal Democrats would be in charge of nothing in this country. Democrats enact programs that fail, blame their failures on inadequate funding, and then demand additional funding. It is a vicious and extremely expensive cycle that has wreaked havoc on the lives of poor, under-educated people in this country.

The GOP has their chance. Let's see how it goes. My prediction is it will get worse and violent with force as the answer to get those folks under control. Tell me when that has worked in this country. The private prisons will do great in this administration because that is how the GOP (generally) solves problems.

I will take the Dems way EVERY time when it comes to understanding and dealing with the poor. At the very least more people have a chance.

We'll see.
