2023 Outcome

Record: 9-5

The first four weeks saw losses to two eventual state champs and a runner-up. Eight wins in the next nine games resulted in another semifinal appearance where the Purples beat them black and blue.

2024 Outlook

The typically calm waters of Red Devil off-seasons got a little choppy as Deion Winstead and Dereon Crowe transferred out of the district, Winstead to Florida and Crowe a little further down the road to play with Brady Atwell.  Those two defectors are perhaps as valuable as any of the outgoing seniors. Evan Hampton arrived with a star making sophomore season that merely whets the appetite for what he's capable of. He, along with Delacey, Kimbrell, and Morris, should light up the scoreboard at Rash. They may have no choice, as the defense will be breaking in a lot of new faces in starting roles. The schedule perfectly replicates last year's, right down to the bye week. They may take some lumps early again, before the Diablos inevitably round into form as a potential menace in November.

Winstead transferred down to a school in Florida last I heard. The Crowe and Maddux kids went to Owensboro Catholic. Even with the losses Owensboro should be really good. They’re not beating BG at BG. And probably aren’t winning at Owensboro Catholic. But I’ll be surprised if they don’t win every other game.

I was hoping the scrimmage at Mayfield was going to be in Owensboro so I could watch that one and the Tilghman vs Owensboro Catholic scrimmage.

I'm excited to see what Hampton has in store for 2024. This is a 200 lb running back that's still officially a sophomore moving some serious weight. And we already know he's fast.

He is awesome!!!! Do they have anyone backing him up? He carried the ball about 20 times against Bowling Green. If he goes down they lose a lot of offense.
