Even in the midst of the current season, this is a strange take. Since 2020 (including this season), BG has been in four 5A state title games and won three... in seven seasons. Literally LAST YEAR... the score was 27-24...

BG dropped two wide-open TDs on two different drives. The play calling gave BG the chance to hang 21 on an excellent X defense. I can't call that "suspect". Also worth noting, X scored 21 points on: - A blocked punt (credit X special teams for this) - A fumble immediately following a dropped sure TD - A 4th-down run where the runner was stopped, the whistles were blown, and then, all of a sudden, the runner spun out of the pile, and the ref panicked and signaled a TD I was just one of those nights. I think this BG team is better, and I also think they're going to be VERY good in the future.

The biggest issue I see right now is that the teams aren't hyperlinked to their schedules and results on the scoreboard.

Owensboro absolutely dominated X. They beat them handily essentially without a QB. About the time ol buddy for the Devils was taking it up the sideline for 99, the doors were 100% being blown off.

X folks… how y'all feeling about this?

Owensboro is legit. That said, this is not a good X team by X standards. I think the real test of where Owensboro stands comes next week against CAL.

A good Simon Kenton is good for BGP. It adds spice to the 6A message board plate.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here. Owensboro blows the doors off X, 35-7. That prediction should make me some friends.

I think we can all agree that Owensboro, Scott Co., Pulaski, and Atherton are entering the season as some of the best teams their schools have seen in the last 25 years. Of those four, Scott Co. is the one I am a little dubious about. They just don't seem to have something that let's them get over the hump. This is their year, if there ever was one, though; they are loaded. Owensboro seems head and shoulders above the rest right now. I'm just not buying Woodford; in their playoff losses, they have given up 49 (2025), 55 (2024), 60 (2023), 21 (2022), and 46 (2021) over the last five years. I think they're a good team, but they're gonna have to at least get to the big game before I think of them in the conversation with the previous four. Past those teams, you have BG. What they come out looking like remains to be seen. One thing I am sure of, after the last fifteen years in which BG has eight 5A state titles and a runner-up, the Purples will be back... sooner rather than later.

BGHS Class of 2029 QB Anthony Davis has recently picked up offers from EKU and U of L. Camp season seems to be off to a good start for this rising KY star.

Cooper will be fine. As others have pointed out, Borchers has been there, had to go back to the drawing board, and then gotten back there. Dude and his staff can coach, and the talent pool in Boone Co. is deep. Now, will they ever have another dad with the Facebook-rant talent that they had in 2024? I don't think so. Dude was a one-in-a-generation ranter.

X finds a way to lose this one. And to be honest, a Finals with Grayson Co. in it is what the Sweet Sixteen needs.

It's a safety thing mainly. High School campuses are large places with many dark spots. When events draw a large crowd to campus (games, musicals, fall fests, tournaments, etc.), the extra lighting makes a HUGE difference in creating a safer feel on campus. This is particularly prevalent in January and February, when basketball is regularly played, and the sun sets at 5.

Longtime assistant who has put in the work. Tremendous hire for Greenwood: Adams will likely keep an excellent staff together, the players know and like him, and he has been part of the Greenwood community as long as anyone who has ever been HC at that school. On top of all that, just a great all-around guy who is passionate and knowledgeable about football and truly values the impact football can have on students' lives.

Bench, Squat, and Clean... those are very impressive numbers Bench, Squat, and Deadlift... those are pretty average HS leaderboard numbers.

What are your just-for-fun "You know it's coming" call-outs for 2026... Here are some of mine: 1. I'm gonna go ahead and not be happy with the first round playoff matchups. 2. I'm gonna also be mad that Trinity's game against Moeller or some other out-of-state juggernaut is the RPI equivalent of playing Daviess Co. 3. Can you smell the disappointment with another state-semi's exit from Ft. Thomas? 4. Come on, Raceland!!... sigh. 5. And jumping ahead to post-2026... Have you ever seen that scene in Zootopia where the sloth is working at the DMV? That's the same pace you can expect for the 2027-'28 realignment.

An average BG, Owensboro, or South team will beat a very good Glasgow team 4 out of 5 times. A good BG, Owensboro, or South team will beat a very good Glasgow team 5 out of 5 times. Kudos to the Scotties if they want to schedule the Purples, Devils, or Spartans... but to me, the targets for Glasgow in the area ought to be (within reasonable driving distance): Franklin Simpson, Greenwood, O-Cath, Logan Co., Christian Co., Pulaski Co., Bullitt East, and North Hardin. Pick any of five of those as non-district games and it's hard for me to see the Scotties doing better than 3-2. If you wanna play the Purples, Devils, or Spartans on a regular basis, you'd better see yourself as a 5-0 or at worst, 4-1 team against a random draw of the above-listed teams. I do think Arnett has injected the Scotties with life, and they are certainly headed in a terrific direction, and there has been no shortage of talent in the Glasgow/Barren Co. area, so who knows... they could be a rising monster in South Central KY!

Solid record as a HC, and probably one of the most proven coaches hired for 2026. On the surface, it looks like an excellent hire for the Raiders.

2010 Allen Co. was something to behold. It was three years in the making, and the Patriots' run to the 2010 Finals was magical. I still argue that, if not for the block-in-the-back call that nullified a TD for the Pats, they would have brought the hardware back to Scottsville.

Glaser was a great football coach, a Hall of Fame coach who really had a hand in making St. X the St. X we all think of these days. But his continuing commentary and presence are a problem. The incessant jabs and sub-tweets that have marked the last decade have been in poor taste. A legend that hangs around can be a tremendous asset... or a tremendous impediment.
