swamprat
I know this is early, but spring games are about to happen in Florida and my grandson is entering his senior year. The "Big Red 7" is an OLB and TE. He was called out of class a while back to talk to Mike Locksley, the HC at Maryland. They are interested, but Locksley told him he need to put on at least 15 more lbs. I had the fortune to accompany him and a teammate to an invitation to the Orange and Blue game up in Gainesville. Billy Napier told him the same. I don't know if Florida is specifically interested in him, but it was his first experience with big school recruiting . He had fun. That is all that matters. This summer should be interesting.
swamprat
I've been busier than a one armed paper hanger, but last Thursday night St. Petersburg High hosted a Spring Classic Jamboree involving St. Pete, Clearwater, and the defending 1S State Champs, Cardinal Mooney. The results follow ... Clearwater 10 Cardinal Mooney 7 Cardinal Mooney 28 St. Pete 20 Clearwater 13 St. Pete 0 As far as the grandson... London forced and recovered a fumble on the opening play of the Jamboree, then sacked Cardinal Mooney's QB on 4th down with the ball at the Clearwater 6 and 15 seconds left in the half (game). Against St. Pete, last years' state leading rusher, St. Pete QB Jeffery Jones only got out of the backfield very few times. On one such instance London ran Jones down from behind before he could get a 1st. FWIW, Jeffrey Jones had a 70 yard run from scrimmage for a TD against Cardinal Mooney. He can scoot. The Big Red 7 had a good night. G'Pa proud. 😁 1

swamprat
As you might have noticed in my previous post, Florida has ditched the Metro, Suburban, Rural, and Independent categories and has gone back to a numbered class system. My grandson transferred from Countryside to Clearwater for the second semester last school year and forward. Oddly enough, in the new classification system, Clearwater and Countryside are in the same district. My grandson, a senior, will play his final regular season game against the team he played for as a freshman.

swamprat
I have to post this since. My grandson had been out for the previous 2 weeks with a concussion. I think he wanted to let everyone know he was OK.. For reference, Clearwater/Largo is a rivalry much like Covington Catholic/Highlands. London was hell bent on playing. London's stats ... Tackles 7.5 Tk/Loss 3.5 Sacks 3 Interceptions 1 Highlights Scroll down past the game recap to see his highlights. The hit that he put on the Largo QB in the second to the last of his highlights caused another interception. Not bad for his first game back.
ATLCat
On 9/14/2024 at 3:51 PM, theguru said: Mallard Creek (NC) 21 Moeller (OH) 14 (OT) To update my nephew's team's season, this score is pertinent. Prince Avenue Christian Georgia now sits at 2-3. After winning three of the last 4 Georgia Class 1A State Titles, Prince Avenue is finding it difficult to fill a schedule without paying the price. As a result they have had to open the season with a murderous slate of schools 3-4X their size from all around the Southeast. Prince Avenue opened the season with a 35-28 win over AAAAAA West Forsyth in the Corky Kell Classic. Prince Avenue traveled to South Carolina for the Turf Kings Classic the next weekend to face Mallard Creek, NC who plays in North Carolina's largest classification. Prince held a two TD advantage but wilted in the heat against the much bigger and deeper team and fell 31-21. The score was 24-21 and PAC had the ball for what they hoped would be a game winning drive but a Pick 6 sealed their fate.Mallard Creek is currently the #2 overall rated school in NC according to Calpreps of eligible competing schools for a State Title (Rabun Gap Nagoochee is a prep school). Mallard Creek is currently the #136 team in America according to Calpreps. Prince Avenue hosted their first home game against GA Powerhouse and one of the favorites to win the bigger school Private Championship, Blessed Trinity. PACS led throughout the game but Blessed Trinity was able to convert a game winning Field Goal in the final minute to take the 23-21 win. Blessed Trinity's lone loss came to the #1 ranked team in Georgia, Milton, 28-14 the following week. Milton is currently the #12 team in the Country according to Calpreps. Blessed Trinity is currently ranked #135 in the Nation by Calpreps. Prince got right by putting a running clock on AAAAA Johns Creek 55-7. The Wolverines final game before Regional play came as they traveled to Anderson, SC to take on the defending South Carolina AAAA State Champions, and current #1 ranked team in the entire State according to Calpreps, Westside. In a back and forth affair the Rams from Westside got a Pick 6 with 24 second before the end of the First Half and stretched the lead to two scores in the 3rd. Prince refused to go away and drove for a score with around 3:00 in regulation. Instead of kicking the extra point, PAC went for the lead and came up short. Westside tackled a late score and Prince Avenue's drive ran out of time in Westside territory in a 49-41 loss. Calpreps has Westside as the #69 overall team in the Country.
