Little known trivia that is interesting

I'll start this off and then feel free to add your own interesting pieces of trivia .

 

President John Tyler the Tyler of Tippicanoe and Tyler Too fame and 10th President of the United States from 1841 to 1845 still has two living grandsons , Harrison Tyler a retired Chemical engineer and owner of Sherwood Forest his grandparents plantation and Lyon G. Tyler Jr. a retired Professor of History at the Citadel .

Are you sure there aren't a few "greats" in there? The math doesn't seem to add up.

There are 118 ridges on a dime and 119 on a quarter. They were put there when the coins contained actual silver to prevent people from shaving away the silver on the edge of the coin and then still spending the coin for its face value. Once the ridges were worn off the edge of a dime or quarter, it was no longer legal tender.

Worldwide, the three oldest universities in continuous operation are the University of Bologna in Bologna, Italy (established 1088 AD), Oxford University in Oxford, England (dates back to 1167 AD), and University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England (founded in 1209 AD).

 

Those predates the Inca Empire, which dates back to the 1100s, the Aztec Empire, which dates back to the early 1400s.

Steve Cauthen got his first race in 1976 at Churchill downs, he came in last that race. 1 year later in 1977 he became the first jockey ever to win more than $6 million in winnings and was nicknamed the 6 million dollar man at only 17 years of age. In 1977 he was named both " Eclipse Award for Outstanding Apprentice Jockey and the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey in the United States."
