Congrats to Newport. What a difference a week makes. Get beat in your district finals by 25 and turn around the next week and become Region Champs in a blowout over the defending State Champs. WOW!!!

Not a big surprise. Holmes underachieved all year. Newport wanted it more and just outplayed them. Holmes has more talent but didn't put it to use. Good luck to the Wildcats.

It was easy to root for the Wildcats after they beat us in the first round. What a very consistent tournament and they earned the championship. Like the other poster said, who woulda thunk after getting drilled by NC by 25 a week ago that they turn around and beat the favorite by 26. Congrats on a game well played as a team. Great coaching job, too, by Coach Russell. And, thanks to Holmes for providing so many great basketball memories to NKY!

Aric Russell has been through some tough times in Newport but has perservered and reaps the rewards of a regional championship.

 

I couldn't be happier for all associated with the Newport program especially guys like John Atkins who has been around the Newport program through thick and thin, basketball or football, day or night, near or far. I'm happy too for Wade, who has to be very proud of his Wildcats today, and to all associated with the Newport program.

 

Holmes was the anointed champion coming into the formality of a regional championship game after having beaten the Cats on two previous occasions this year. Goes to show why you play the game and don't merely phone them in!

I am glad the rest of the state will get to see this team play in Rupp that is not familiar with Newport. They are athletic and fun to watch play.

Love the attitude and demeanor of the Wildcat players. You could see poise and an inner confidence from the beginning of the game. Enjoy this a couple of days with the long break. All of NKY is behind you! Surely, not many doubters remain.

Boys played amazing and just weren't going to be denied this week. Feels so awesome to see the cats take home the title. Party time!
