Cooper 65 Danville Christian 63 (KHSAA Girls' Sweet 16®)

Final. Heck of game. Cooper held on for the win without making a FG the last 7:11 of the game. Cooper will take on Henderson County tomorrow night at 8:30pm.

Interesting they only called half as many fouls in the 2nd half (13) as the 26 in the first half.

A lot closer game than I expected. Survive and advance that’s all that matters right now. Last year Cooper got upset in the first round, and almost happened again. Now that they got the first game out of their system, I think they will play much better tomorrow.

Congrats to Danville Christian on playing one heck of a game!

I am not by any way a conspiracy theorist but I would not be surprised if during the half someone from the association let it be known that the fans did not come to see a FT shooting contest. The game still had the most fouls called of all 8 games in the first round by 10.

Grace Mbugua has to be one of the best juniors in the state.

I’d say also two other very good juniors I saw today ZaKiyah Johnson of Sacred Heart and Leah Macy of Bethlehem.

She is a great player.  Any info on why she committed to Liberty as an 8th grader?  I think she could be a power 5 player.  She looked better than the player from Butler that has committed to UK.

I'm pretty sure it's because her coach, Billy Inmon, has ties to Liberty.  I'm not implying that there's anything inappropriate about her recruiting, it's just that she was exposed to Liberty early on.  I think that attending a Christian college is important to her as well.  All three of Coach Inmon's daughters are going to school there and the youngest is on the track team.  She's close to his three girls and probably feels comfortable being at a school where she knows someone.  There are some other DCA kids going there as well.  Her teammate this year, Braxtyn Heck, is planning on going there from what I understand.

I agree that she could be a power 5 player.  I was impressed by how focused she was in the state tournament against Cooper.  She didn't seem to have any nervousness at all.  I haven't seen the girl from Butler play so I couldn't make a fair assessment on how Grace compares.

I just read in a Larry Vaught article that Grace had opened up her recruitment.  That’s an interesting development.  I would expect to see UK’s new coach at a lot of DCA games this year.

I'm glad she did. That's not a knock against Liberty, and I know her family has a long connection to that school, but she is a high-level talent. Like you, I expect UK to make their presence known.

Hate to say Grace has torn her ACL so her senior season is in jeopardy.

So sorry to hear about her injuring her knee. Hopefully she will be back for at least some of the season. I am looking forward to watching some of her games on the streaming services. She impressed me very much at the state tournament.

I talked to Grace recently and her rehab is going well.  She's wary about trying to rush back into action on that ACL which is good.  She's walking well and doesn't show any kind of a limp.

She had an official visit to UK recently and yesterday there were recruiters from LSU on campus.
