Newport 60 Holmes 34

Featured Replies

Yesterday I suggested that I typically see 2 different Pittmans in every game. Pittman #1 who dominates and takes over games with his athletic ability, and Pittman #2 that takes ill-advised or off balanced shots at the wrong times of a game, and that Newport had the edge over the Bulldogs in basketball smarts. Some were not happy with my comments or me questioning his basketball IQ, but at least I gave props to Pittman #1. Today Pittman #1 was nowhere to be found only demonstrating my point even stronger. To the ones who objected to my comments, I was wondering if you'v seen Pittman #1, because I certainly didn't see him at the BOK today. :idunno:

Congrats to the Wildcats over the Bulldogs. Coach Russel has done a great job this year. Wish him well at Rupp.

The only bad thing about the game was the attitude of Pittman. I would have been embarassed to have him display that type of attitude publically. Glad to see that he was not recognized by the tourney as an all tourney team.

I know for sure that over the last couple weeks (esp. since the Ryle victory over Holmes) that I told a few people that I wouldn't be shocked if someone other than Holmes won the 9th Region title. Little did I know that it would happen.

I thought after the first two games that Newport had a chance to win, but Holmes' athletic ability would carry them once again...but of course it didn't.

As for the above quoted section, yes I would have been embarrassed to have him display that kind of attitude and I think Mrs. Pittman was because she came down from the stands and told him to basically suck it up and act like a man. No matter how bad any of us think a couple of the Holmes players there at the end of the game acted, hats off to Coach Henley to not putting up with it. As someone else said earlier, he is a class act and no coach should let his players put on such a display without taking them out of them game.

I really have no idea who it was. But I remember someone on here saying at the very beginning of December, that they thought Newport could compete with Holmes and could win the Region. I remember most people basically kind of laughing at his comment, and well who ever it was, good call. You definitely were right and you deserve the right to dish out a lot of crow to a lot of people. You said it before other people really got to see that Newport really was a team to watch out for.

Congrats to Newport! Now keep surprising people and go down and bring back the state title to nky for the second year in a row!!!

Congratulations Newport - That......was a statement.

Good to see the smaller schools thriving. We saw Beechwood in baseball and now Newport today....:thumb:

I'm at a loss...I guess here in Central KY we don't see those teams as much. Newport must have some serious athletes too in order to beat Holmes.

Wow, just got in a little while ago and saw this one. Color me shocked at the final margin.

Congratulations to Newport and their staff!

Congrats to Newport, they played a great game. Good luck at Rupp.

Congrats to Newport. I too was shocked by the outcome of this one. I too picked Holmes to win it again and I was totally off. Good luck to Npt in the Sweet 16 and I hope they dont settle for anything less than a State Championship. Go Wildcats.

I've wondered how Holmes always scores so few points with the horses they have. Is it style or opposing teams gameplanning or what?

WHAT MAKES THEM WILDCATS WILD!!!! Congrats and good luck!

I made comments in the preview polls that Newport would be good this season, but I really didn't think they would take the 9th region title in such dominating fashion. Congrats to Coach Russell and the Wildcats, make us proud at Rupp.
