Wish Holmes could have ended with more class!

Let's hope the old addage is true, you can learn more from failure than you can from victory. It was a tough Holmes sideline on multiple levels.

I did admire several of their parents stepping up and telling them to take it like men!

It is disheartening to see the comments about the Holmes team in general. I don't feel we can label the team as having a total lack of class and poor sportsmanship due the the acts of 1 or 2. I did see them leave for the locker room but other than maybe those 1 or 2 I would like to think it was not meant in poor sportsmanship but a very upsetting and confusing moment for many of those young men. Please don't take one moment in time and label a team that has overcome adversity and accomplished what they have in the last 3 years.

Coach Henley has done some amazing things with this group of players, this just was not the night for them. Newport was clearly the better team on the floor and for that they should be congratulated!! They will represent the 9th region and as other teams supported Holmes we will support Newport in their quest.

After the game was over, while watching the Holmes player leave the court, I couldn't help but think how gracious they were after winning the title. Smiling, being escorted down Madison towards the school, yet not showing respect towards a very game Wildcats squad. I know sometimes we all get caught up in our emotions and when we do we act out of character, I just hope they learn from their reactions today.

Back to the actual game, I loved the setting, and I couldn't say I'd rather be in David Evans or sitting in Conner's or Ryle's gym this afternoon. The kids of the 9th are very lucky to have such a gem of a gym to play in now, a very impressive building. For those who attended last season's final, was the crowd as large as today's game? I would have to believe that at least 5,000 were in attendance today.

I walked out with one of the parents who did put at least one of them back in check. I don't dispute that there was some display that should not have happened. I hate to see the whole team and the program become labeled because of the action of a few.

Actually a bigger crowd last year but the 9th and 10th boys were on the same night. The upper deck was quite full last year. Still a very, very nice crowd.

Will there be any final attendance numbers released?

Congrats to Newport. They really deserved this tournament. Now that the run for Holmes is over, thanks for bringing the state tournament trophy back to the 9th region last year. As for Coach Henley, he's the most accomplished coach in the history of the 9th region and my hats off this this most impressive run of tournament titles and a semi-finalist, runner-up and state championship

For those that have been around BGP for years you're quite familiar with the annual "Newport might surprise some people" post.

Glad to see the young men get to the promised land.

Wasn't that usually met by jeering by Clyde?:D

Paint it how ever you want. Leaving the floor and not shaking hands whether it be 1 player or 15 players is a reflection of the team and coach. Over the past 3 years they had the respect of those that they beat, why not give it to the team that beat them? You win with class and lose with class and Holmes hasn't been taught this lesson. That's ashame!

As I walked out to my car after the game, I couldn't help but overhear a Holmes' student talking to his parents about how some the players on his team behaved. I heard him say that while he was upset at losing, he was more upset that the actions of a few would likely reflect poorly on the entire school. Even though I would never judge an entire school or community based on the actions of a few, I know that there are people out there that do. And for that reason, I kinda felt bad for the poor kid.

That's exactly my point! This team, over the last 3 years, has worked hard to bring some respect to the school and the community. They have put the

9th Region on the map and played with a target on their back all season. Newport hit that target and came out on top.

I am certainly not condoning the action that was displayed. The actions of a few does certainly reflect on the whole team and the school, which is a complete shame. I am quite certain those few players will get an ear full, as well they should.

I know I picked them as my darkhorse so check me off on your list as one.

You can Check me off as well, i predicted it closer, but i'm happy Newport pounded them and did it with CLASS. It was very disappointing to see such poor character and class from some of the Holmes side but Congrats to Newport you well deserved it.

Good Luck at RUPP!!!:dancingpa:dancingpa:dancingpa

I just remembered this little nugget as I left the game and thought I'd share it.

I was waiting by the restrooms and I see many many dissappointed Holmes fans walking out of the arena. One little boy caught my eye. I would say he was 9 or 10 years old. He was walking out with his Holmes T-Shirt on and next to him was I assume his grandmother and his father. His grandmother was giving him a good lesson as they walked out of the arena. I overheard her say:

"now you listen to me young man. don't you ever ever act like that boy did down there. you take losing just like you taking winning. you act like you've been there before whether you win or lose."

and then she looked him in the eye and said "YOU UNDERSTAND ME??"

I walked out of that building absolutley satisfied with what I paid for tickets today.
