As always, Nice photos Panda!

As always, Nice photos Panda!

Thanks, I took 200 but after 35 hours of the BOK this week I am exhausted. Probably put up more once the chatter dies down.

I know for sure that over the last couple weeks (esp. since the Ryle victory over Holmes) that I told a few people that I wouldn't be shocked if someone other than Holmes won the 9th Region title. Little did I know that it would happen.

I thought after the first two games that Newport had a chance to win, but Holmes' athletic ability would carry them once again...but of course it didn't.

As for the above quoted section, yes I would have been embarrassed to have him display that kind of attitude and I think Mrs. Pittman was because she came down from the stands and told him to basically suck it up and act like a man. No matter how bad any of us think a couple of the Holmes players there at the end of the game acted, hats off to Coach Henley to not putting up with it. As someone else said earlier, he is a class act and no coach should let his players put on such a display without taking them out of them game.

It was very disappointing to see the Holmes players leave the court before the trophey presentation, only to have their coaching staff have to go into the locker room after them. Also one of Holmes better players didn't shake any of the Newport players hands after the game. I hated that it had to end that way.

For those that have been around BGP for years you're quite familiar with the annual "Newport might surprise some people" post.

Glad to see the young men get to the promised land.

It is hard to say that this is a huge upset, Newport has been playing well all year long, just didn't get all the hype that Holmes got, but still this is a game that makes you go WOW!!! I am very excited about seeing Newport at the State Tournament, hope they have some carry over about them. This is a great time for the city of Newport and thier players, staff, fans, administration, and others involved. Hope they have great fan support at Rupp, they got mine!

I really have no idea who it was. But I remember someone on here saying at the very beginning of December, that they thought Newport could compete with Holmes and could win the Region. I remember most people basically kind of laughing at his comment, and well who ever it was, good call. You definitely were right and you deserve the right to dish out a lot of crow to a lot of people. You said it before other people really got to see that Newport really was a team to watch out for.

Congrats to Newport! Now keep surprising people and go down and bring back the state title to nky for the second year in a row!!!

I stated in a thread in December that on the right day I believed Newport could knock off the defending state champs, and boy was today ever the right day!

Congrats to Newport!

Last year, state champion Holmes had close calls in all 3 games and won by less than 10 each game. Newport won each game by double digits this year. Talk about peaking at the right time. Congrats again on a fantastic tourney and I hope they are not satisfied with just the regional championship. GO CATS!!

I'm not sure why some people are surprised by the way Pittman acted.

It's like watching repeats of a bad movie.

I Could not be happier for my old friends from Newport! I love to watch team basketball and Newport plays team ball.

Go Cats.

Very impressed with the Cats, Foster is a stud. Newport set the tone early and played patiently on offense. What impressed me the most about Foster was how unselfish he is. It's apparent that he's talented enough to make a play for himself every time down the floor but he made some nice passes off penetration to cutting teammates. Just like many times prior, I waited for Pittman to dominate but it never occured. No reason a player of his talent and size shouldn't be able to control the block but he seemed content to play away from the hoop, and his demeanor was terrible.

It was very disappointing to see the Holmes players leave the court before the trophey presentation, only to have their coaching staff have to go into the locker room after them. Also one of Holmes better players didn't shake any of the Newport players hands after the game. I hated that it had to end that way.

Total lack of class and disrespect by Holmes! I would have thought they would have been taught how to win with class and lose with class. Evidentually that's not the case. What an embarrassment! I'm sure that Newport will represent the 9th with class.

As posted by Walter on 12/28/2009

Both teams looked flat in the first quarter and Newport led 12-11 after one.

At the half Newport led by 10 at 30-20 and the second half would be all Cats.

In the third quarter, Newport built a 42-24 lead but a 7-2 run to close the quarter by the Camels closed the game to 44-31.

Fourth quarter was all about runs. Newport led 56-38 with 4 mins left. With two minutes left, the score was Newport 60 Campbell Co 48 after a 10-4 run by the Camels. Like all good teams do though, Newport finished down the stretch. Foster got a couple and one's and the Cats closed the last two minutes with a 9-3 run.

Campbell Co simply couldn't contend with Newport's athleticism and got killed on the boards. Luther and Foster couldn't be stopped tonight.

After seeing the game tonight, I mentioned two things to the person I was with:

1. Newport is a very good team and will be a legit contender within the region.

2. Campbell Co isn't a very good team. They looked horrible offensively.

Nice meeting you Walter and nice call back in December.

Congrats to Newport. :dancingpa

Thank you to Holmes for getting the NKY basketball rolling last year as State Champs.

Good Luck to Newport and lets keep the championship in NKY.:ylsuper:
