Newport 60 Holmes 34

For some of the people who say its a reflection of their coach as well. Do you honestly think you could have done a better job with those kids? Do you honestly think you could have got those guys to buy into being a team for the past 3 or 4 years. Do you think you all would have been able to get them to show as much class as they have the last 3 or 4 years. Are you so confident that you would have been able to make sure those kids didn't act like that after a big defeat like that, that ended most of their careers in high school?

Some people act on here like it would be so easy to stop that, and if they were coaching then that wouldn't happen. Well I say peopel are living in fantasy land, and not being realistic. If they think they could make players are an inner city school do everything right. How those players acted were not right, but for people to come on here and say things about coaches or anything like that and basically acting like they could have done better is just as wrong as what those players did. Its easy to say from the outside what you would do, but its a whole different thing to be actually in that situation. I don't think a single person on here, could have done a better job with those kids than what that coach has done.

At the trophy presentation, none of the members of the TEAM came out to get their trophy...??

Actually, Herndon and Rico received the trophy because they were already out there with their all tourney team plaques. Any time Holmes has won a tournament, it's only the SENIORS who accept the trophy. Coach Henley never lets the whole TEAM go out and get it.

I don't see anything wrong with that...especially considering all of the emotion on Holmes' side of the floor after the loss.

I think some of you really need to back off and quit bashing these KIDS. It seems as if some of you are relishing the opportunity to kick these KIDS while they're down.

GREAT game by Newport, I had a feeling they had a chance to win, but not by that much! Holmes had an unbelievable press at points, but that didn't stop the Wildcats. Good luck at RUPP!

Now onto the comments about the after game situation. Only 4 Holmes players stayed on the bench after the teams shook hands after the game, but the coaches were able to get all of those who went to the locker room back out on the floor, so what happened cannot be blamed on the coaches or administration of Holmes. Holmes coaches and parents should not be the ones to blame.

As has been stated these are kids, they were upset, they fully expected to get back to Rupp! Hopefully they will learn from this situation. But, hearing a couple of adult fans on the other side of the arena shouting out "You bunch of crybabies" is any better?

Do you think that the Newport players were concerned over this? NO! They were too busy celebrating their win. I would hope people would concentrate on Newport and their fantastic win!

Well said Sportsguy. There are plenty of things that I could point out from the Newport side both during and after the game and also an incident before Newport's game with Covcath that involved Tucker, but I choose not to because these are KIDS.

Good seeing you last night with TOG after the game.

I remember threads last year talking about how much Holmes team traveled and how well behaved the players were. Great kids as I recall the thread. This game was filled with emotion and physical play so ending the way it did is difficult. Rico and JJ were classy before during and after the game. Most other players followed suit. A couple let the moment get the best of them. No team likes getting that second place trophy and I can admire that. It is time to move on.

Coach Henley is clearly one of the best coaches in the area and will go down in the books as one of the best. Bottom line is one game at the BOK is not going to tarnish this teams accomplishments.

To put this in perspective, the Ryle lady's did the same thing, but actually a bit more disrespectfully. Crittendon was at the table as she had just been given the MVP placque. She took the trophy by necessity, but appeared unwilling. One of the official presenters had to carry the game ball over to Coach Oliverio who was more interested in going to the locker room.

The more appropriate response would have been to shake hands and show some appreciation for those who worked hard to put on a good show in the BOK environment.

None of the kids on the Ryle bench showed the slightest interest in the trophy, the game ball, or the crowd that was there to support them.

"Sore losing" was the theme of the day.

I sat on the Newport side yesterday, and trust me, the Holmes bashing started in warmups and never stopped throughout the entire game. It was awful. Why can't people keep things in perspective? These are high school kids playing a game. This is not life & death here folks. I was shocked at some of the things I heard from adults. Sad.

Sadly I did not know the school fight song while I was in school and just learned it within the past year. Thanks Coach Rice!:D

On ye wildcats, on ye wildcats fight on for our fame

Send the ball clear down the field for a touchdown shore this game A TOUCHDOWN

On ye wildcats, on ye wildcats fight on for our fame

FIGHT fellas FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT and win this game

Newport Wildcats, Newport Wildcats,

We are singing, praise is ringing

We will never find our equal

Newport Wildcats, HERE'S TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It seemed a lot longer than that.

I have some video of both teams warming up before the game. I was going to post it on here but some of the things being said by the Newport fans in the background are so bad, I'd probably be suspended if I posted it.

Were you filming from the scorers table like in the last video you posted? If so that was Holmes section behind you.

Emotions were very high on both sides and unfortunately the adrenaline brought out the worst in quite a few (adults and kids) on both sides. From what I witnessed, the Newport boys put up with quite a bit from blantant no foul calls especially the physical ones and hung right in there. There were multiples times Demarko could have sunk to a lower level - but he didn't. These are kids and would we have acted any better? Probably not. We need to keep this in perspective - the Holmes Basketball team has provided us with a lot of good basketball - don't let this one game tarnish that. We should be thankful at everything they have given us and let that be the memory we keep of them. A very talented group that brought a state championship back to Northern Kentucky.

Wow...I have to say I'm shocked at how quickly this thread turned from celebratory to who behaved worse - the kids or parents/fans (not even 24hrs!). Every fanbase has a small group that show bad sportsmanship and we all can share examples (but let's not). What happened to a few people don't represent the whole program/city?

I'm also surprised by how people don't want to throw kids under the bus but keep sharing their names in a forum. How about we stop throwing names/actions out and keep this positive?

Congratulations Newport on a momentous accomplishment and keep on shocking the State! See you at Rupp!

Go Wildcats!

I know where Holmes' section was. They were behind the scorer's table, while Newport was behind the courtside seats and also in the endzone where there are regular seats and not bleachers.

When I was filming the introductions, I was at the scorer's table. That's why I posted the video.

When I was getting Newport's warm ups, I was standing across from the scorer's table at midcourt.

When I moved down to get Holmes' warm ups, I was standing in the corner where the baseline and sideline meet...at the end of the courtside seats, so in front of Newport's fan section.

I couldn't believe some of the comments adults were making toward the kids of Holmes.

I agree 100%.

It seemed a lot longer than that.

It was, they did it a couple of times, and sorry if we disturbed your dinner. That win was just huge for that group of kids.:dancingpa
