Wow...I have to say I'm shocked at how quickly this thread turned from celebratory to who behaved worse - the kids or parents/fans (not even 24hrs!). Every fanbase has a small group that show bad sportsmanship and we all can share examples (but let's not). What happened to a few people don't represent the whole program/city?

 

I'm also surprised by how people don't want to throw kids under the bus but keep sharing their names. How about we stop throwing names/actions out and keep this positive?

 

Congratulations Newport on a momentous accomplishment and keep on shocking the State! See you at Rupp!

You didn't. I was very happy for Nick Rice and Kenny Eckert. Nick as a first year AD and Eckert as a lifetime supporter. Those guys bleed red and black. I loved seeing how happy they were. The players and their families seemed like a fun crowd to hang with. I was just amazed at how long it was. NewCath's is really short. If it can't be NewCath, I'm always glad if its Newport or Highlands.

BTW, for those who made comments about Holmes' program and coaching staff, you may want to read the following from Ryan Ernst blog after yesterday's game:

 

While the teams were going through the handshake line, Holmes coach David Henley, coming off one of the most crushing losses of his career, stopped Newport coach Aric Russell. He told him he’d be happy to share his game film on Christian County, the Wildcats’ probable first-round state tournament opponent. I thought that was pretty strong.

 

Classy move by Coach Henley.

This was very classy as he alway's is, and i do take the excuse how devastated these Holmes kids must have been, but for Pittman it's a constant and no place for it in high school sports, guy he threw a punch, and i could tell you what the kid's say he was saying throughout the game but i'll leave that alone.:idunno:

:laugh: Funny how in the poll from 2/28, only 5 out of 140 bgp posters predicted Newport's win . . .

That's why polls don't determine winner and loser and why you play the game except in the case of NCAA football and the stupid BCS system.

The inner-city kids should be held to the same high standards as every other student athlete in the 9th region, no more or less.

Great job Coach Russell and the Newport Wildcats. Their run through the 9th Region Tournament was really enjoyable for me and my family. It was kind of like the movie "Hoosiers".

 

The effort and heart shown by the Newport players was a good enough lesson for me my and family. And not any negatives of the game. Don't let that stuff take away from what these boys from Newport have accomplished. Hopefully everyone learns from there mistakes and let the Wildcats enjoy there big win, they deserve that much!!

On Saturday evening I had a buddy working at the scorer's table/press table during the Cov. Cath. vs. Newport game. I wanted to sit close by to watch him work. I had on Cov. Cath. blue as did my wife. The section behind the scorer's table/press table was marked for Newport. The Newport fans were boisterous but very cool. No issues whatsoever. I didn't hear anything negative about the Cov. Cath. players.

Congrats to Newport...you definitely earned this championship by out playing and out working Holmes.

 

Congrats also to Holmes for a very good season. Good luck to all the seniors in your future endeavors and thanks for the all the great memories you have provided all Bulldog fans.
