Grab The Rosary Beads, It's Catholic Week In 'Title Town'

Records: LexCath (2-3) | Boyle County (5-0)

BGP Rankings: LexCath (#2 in 3A) | Boyle County (#1 in 4A)

Week 5 Results: LexCath lost to LCA | Boyle County beat Taylor County

Series History: Boyle County leads 22-14 all-time

Burning Question: Can the Knights find Boyle's Achilles heel? Better question: Does it even exist? The Rebels have bordered on invincible for most of the season, with more playmakers than the opposition can account for. Case in point, Avery Bodner and Montavin Quisenberry accounted for over 400 yards from scrimmage in Boyle's playoff win over the Knights last year while Demauriah Brown was still an Admiral.

For LexCath to pull this off, Jackson Wasik needs the game of his life, because a shootout may be their only path to victory. In two games against the Rebels last season, he completed 74% of his throws for 565 yards and six touchdowns, so the precedent for him playing well is there.

Boyle County is 42-3 since 2020. Wasik helped deal the Rebels one of those three losses. If there's a quarterback with the moxy to escape Danville with a win, Wasik may be it.

Wasik runs around like Fran Tarkenton used to and usually finds his guy as he is accurate. Rebs secondary will be tested once again and Catholic will likely throw away from Quisenberry and Brown as they are really good covering guys and look for interceptions. I believe he has to be turnover-free to have a chance and be able to get away from Driver and Feltner chasing him.

Does anyone want to tell the boosters this isn't a #DistrictGame anymore?

Boyle wins this one big. 50-6. Running clock early in the 3rd quarter.

When was the last time this rivalry had the real intensity we saw back I the early days of the LexCath program? This was as big a game as there was back in the 4 class system.

From 1991 (Lexington Catholic's first season playing football) until 2016, this was one of the premier rivalries in Central Kentucky, if not statewide. Particularly from 2007 (first season as district rivals) until 2016.

They were district mates in the late 90s/early 00s. The four games they played in 1999 and 2000 may be the peak of the rivalry. But I say that as an outsider that didn't closely follow the series during the time frame you mentioned. There were some great games during those years, too.

Boyle won titles in '99 and '00 with LexCath clearly the #2 team in the class. The Knights went 22-4 those two years, with all four losses coming to the Rebels by margins of 8, 4, 2, and 2.

People closer to it may have a different take on the best years of the rivalry, but those games in the infancy of the Boyle County dynasty are hard to top.
