They were district mates in the late 90s/early 00s. The four games they played in 1999 and 2000 may be the peak of the rivalry. But I say that as an outsider that didn't closely follow the series during the time frame you mentioned. There were some great games during those years, too.

Boyle won titles in '99 and '00 with LexCath clearly the #2 team in the class. The Knights went 22-4 those two years, with all four losses coming to the Rebels by margins of 8, 4, 2, and 2.

People closer to it may have a different take on the best years of the rivalry, but those games in the infancy of the Boyle County dynasty are hard to top.

Excellent points!

Goes to show that this rivalry has been very competitive for a long, long time. From 2007-2015, the series was 9-7 in favor of Lexington Catholic with an average margin of victory of 9 points. Remove two outliers (a 32 point Boyle County win in 2010 and a 29 point Lexington Catholic victory in 2007) and the series was 8-6 in favor of LC with an average margin of victory of 6 points. One of these teams played in the semifinals or finals every single season.

Here's hoping that the newest installation of this great game brings all of the excitement of years past.

Best of luck to both teams!

It was Lexington Catholic that ended Boyle County's 25 game winning streak from 2002 to 2004 in the first game of the '04 season.  If memory serves the Knights took advantage of Boyle mistakes late to kick a winning FG at the end of the game.

If Catholic didn't have to go through Boyle I think they would have 5-7 State Championships. Catholic has 2 titles, 05 and 07. The 05 team didn't play Boyle (I believe Catholic wins if they played, that team was loaded) and the 07 team beat Boyle in the regular season out of district. In the late 90s and early 00s, whoever won that game was going to win the title. Boyle came out on top. Same can be said about 09, 10, 20, & 22.

The players and coaches have the ultimate respect for one another. Catholic will give Boyle their best game this season.

If the same RPI system had existed back then I think you would have seen them play in the title game against each other 3-4 times.  Much like Bullitt East and Male coming from the same district.  Last year was the first time that was even possible, and it actually happened.

Is the BCSN going to video stream this game?  If not, is anyone going to stream it?

This is not just a football rivalry either.  I can't remember the year, but Boyle beat Lex Cath in the first round of the Sweet 16 with a buzzer beater shot.  They were down 11, I think, with less than 2 minutes  to go and came back to win.  There were Lexington Catholic fans that had left and were already in the ticket line to try to get tickets for their next game when they found out that Boyle came back to win.

2015.  Great game, and great run to the final 4 for that Boyle Co. team.

Just one simple question “Who ya with “
