Open Job: Danville Christian Academy
burreaux replied to QueenoftheSouth's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
In my experience the worst reasons in coaching are: 1. Parents 2. Administration 3. Parents 4. Parents 5. Parents ... 879. The kids Adults ruin youth sports more often than not. -
2024 Cincinnati Bengals Draft Discussion
burreaux replied to mcpapa's topic in National Football League (NFL)
I would love that, but that is the most un-Cincinnati like thing imaginable. I think they will stay put and take the best available player that is a WR, OT, or DT. I am hoping for Latham out of Alabama. -
I heard that thunder and lightning backfield might be thunder-less and lightning-less next year. If so, that would be a huge loss for Garrard.

I think Dawson will be playing DB at the next level, but yes, still a big loss. I'm thinking another year of Tavey will be able to make up for anything they lost from last year's team. I can't think of a more slam dunk pick for Mr. Football at this point of the preseason than Tavey going in to this year.

Apparently he is even considering retirement if he doesn't get a new contract before the season starts.

Here's to hoping we never see him again in a game.

I tend to think that 2024 Boyle > 2023 Boyle.

Stefon Diggs Traded to the Houston Texans
burreaux replied to MJAlltheWay24's topic in National Football League (NFL)
Been top 10 most of his career but never top 5 and he's felt like a top 2 headache too often. -
West Jessamine has been one of the better teams in the region for the last 15 years. They play in a very winnable district, with access to good athletes, solid facilities, and Jessamine County Schools pay the best in the region. I would think almost every coach would find these to be attractive qualities if they were looking for a new position.

Now that Rodney Woods is out of Wayne County, would he be interested in a move this far north?

2024 Lincoln County Patriots

Great point. I don't see the same level of vitriol towards Danville for canceling their contract with Boyle as Lincoln is getting. -
Pulaski County 71 Boyle County 44 (12th Region)

I think that's a pretty valid statistic to cite. What would you use to evaluate strength of a district? -

Good point. I guess a better way to say that is that they have the talent to be a perennial power. -
Night and day difference up here. From my experience, top to bottom, NKY is the most passionate about their high schools from an academic and athletic perspective. Boone County may be bottom tier for NKY but would be a mid to above average job in every other area of the state.

Just like this past football season, they are peaking at the right time. -

To be fair, how many districts are tougher than the 45th? Lincoln, Boyle, and DCA seem to be perennial region powers. Not to mention every 2-5 years Danville and/or Garrard are capable of fielding strong teams that can compete. -
Based on what's being talked about the Open: West Jessamine thread it sounds like there needs to be a concerted effort to keep him a Jaguar next year....

As a teacher who has recently relocated to NKY from a rural district in central KY, the disparity you talk about may be even more startling than you realize. With a Rank I and multiple years of experience, I saw a 30% increase in my salary. Not to mention the job I interviewed for in NKY had 7 qualified applicants within 3 weeks. Where I left had a similar open position for two years with only 1 qualified applicant (myself). How does that affect this open position? I think Boone may need to look outside the box and consider calling on young assistants or new, recent HC's from the rural districts in other parts of the state. I think those individuals may find the community support, financial commitment from the district, caliber of player, quality of the feeder programs, etc compares favorably to where they came from. Even if Boone is not the premier job it was 15-25 years ago, it could represent a significant step up from the rural districts in Southern and Eastern KY.

I get what you are saying, but I think it's also important for admin and the coaches to be grounded in reality (not saying you aren't). This game has zero chance of being competitive for the foreseeable future. Danville needs to build a .500 level program again before they should reconsider playing this game.

West Jessamine.
