So we're talking about: Trinity, St X, DeSales, Lexington Catholic, Covington Catholic, Newport Catholic, St. Henry, Holy Cross, Owensboro, Covington Latin, and Villa Madonna and then a handful of other smaller private Christian Schools?

These are (I believe) all the private schools in the state. If I'm not mistaken, Collegiate, University Heights, and Walden are the only ones that do not have any religious-based curriculum.

If my math is correct, since 1922, there have been 1,584 Sweet 16 berths. Private schools have won a total of 86 Regional titles. That's 5.4% of all possible teams making it to the dance, an average of less than one per year.

Seems like a fair data sample. It's all about perception isn't it?

Is it possible that some of that perception caries over from football?  Or is that also unwarranted?

I thought Bishop Brossart would figure in there somewhere.

Great thread and is shows everyone that when public schools are serious about sports they can compete just fine.

I believe public schools are serious about sports and can compete just fine. There are a myriad of factors involved. In NKY we have had many outstanding public school programs in many different sports...mens and womens... for a long time. We also have outstanding private school programs. We have public schools that are very similar to private schools because of community demographics. All of them compete....and I would think some public school folks might take offense to your comment about how serious they are. Just my two cents.

If anyone is taking offense it is time to look at their own school/program.

I thought Ballard was like an accelerated school that students had to qualify for, kind of like the Ignite School in Boone County. I quick look at the website tells me it is just a regular public school in the JCPS.

It’s regular public school.

I don’t see CAL, DeSales, Beth Haven, Portland Christian, Presentation or KCD from the Louisville area on your list.  KCD doesn’t have any religious based curriculum.  Let’s be honest though, when we think private and/or Catholic schools, it’s really just 6 or so schools most people think about.
