Did any players from Northern Kentucky make the Courier Journal All State teams other than Alexander?

Went to the 1-A game. Nice recognition for the 1-A district Players of the Year. Great looking group of young men. I was impressed with the interaction with the boys before and during the award ceremony. I guess talent respects talent. Even the parents had nice thing to say about opposing players. Respect by all. Now on to the game. Two very different teams. Sayre throws the ball almost all the time. Pennington is a solid player. Coffman is the real deal. Sayre has a middle linebacker (#1 Slabaugh) is a beast and seems to love to hit. Raceland running backs (#2 Marushi) ran hard. QB (#10) Waller played well and contributed in different way. Two contrasting teams. Sayre wanted to pass and did effectively. Raceland wanted to prove they could run the ball. that's the way the game went. Raceland went on a 4th down right before half and failed. Sayre went down and scored right before half. To me that was the deciding factor in the game. It was a well-played game by both teams. I feel for the team that came up short. Congratulations to Sayre on a great game plan and an offence that would be hard to come up with a scheme to defend.

There was no disrespect meant toward your quarterback. I stated the young man is a talent and a stud. My point was that all Campbellsville success was with the legs of the quarterback. The quarterback is your team. He had no support in the running game at all and limited in the passing game. Again, I congratulate Campbellsville and wish them the best moving forward as I did in my original post.

Congratulations to Sayre on a big win. There goes Brossarts argument that their program has not been around long enough to compete with the big boys. Great win to build on for Sayre going forward.

I believe the "Mountain Man" I referred to when I started this thread was from Pikeville. Wonder what he thinks now. I do feel for NCC and Newport. Could have easily been a sweep for Northern Kentucky. Now for the five remaining NKY teams, let's bring home some hardware.

Just got home from the game and during the drive home I pondered what I might say. First of all, congratulations to Campbellsville as they continue to move on. Campbellsville is truly one pony show on offense. Not to take anything away from their quarterback, the kid is a talent and a load. They have no running game. The QB is virtually the only running game they have. The only true passing game they had were passes in the flats which NCC never made adjustments to. Campbellsville will need to clean up the turnovers if they have any thought of winning the next round. All that being said, a win is a win, and they should be proud. Help me understand this: NCC has the ball with just over 2 minutes to go in the 4th up by 4. Campbellsville has one time out left. NCC is around the 35-to-40-yard line. Moving toward their end zone. You have a 6'1", 225 tailback that has been gashing Campbellsville all night and you decide to run a gimmick play. "IF" NCC would have gotten the first down, game over. The backbreaker was the 4th down missed interception that went through the players hands and landed on the chest of a Campbellsville player while on the ground at the one-yard line. Coaching would have helped the player to know he would be better off knocking the ball down knowing it was 4th down. Game over. I am not blaming any player. NCC left it all on the field. This game could of had a totally different outcome. I felt for the Senior players. They handled this season like true role models for the underclassmen. They should be proud of what they accomplished and what a mark they made on "THE HILL".

I recently read a football post from a person who referred to himself as a "Mountain Man". His post stated that Northern Kentucky football was weak. Welllll, as I look down the schools remaining in the playoff brackets, I find there to be a contradiction to his opinion. Best of luck to the players and coaches from Ryle, Cooper, Covington Catholic, Highlands, Beechwood, Newport Central Catholic and Newport. I would say Northern Kentucky is well represented.

I meant no disrespect to Mustang. I think he does an excellent job. If you think money and facilities will bring you championships, I think you are misled. Brossart has some nice sports programs, both male and female. I you keep your schedule like it is your players will not be prepared to play better teams in the playoffs. An example would be Dayton loss last year and NCC this year. They need to get in the weight room and become more physical. I would hardly consider NCC on a downward slide. Year after year they find themselves going deep in the payoffs. I think the future is just fine going forward at NCC. Just as a disclaimer I did not attend NCC and don't have a dog in the fight. My points are just an outsider's observation.

Mustang: I think you were trying to make a positive out of a bad situation. I respect you and your effort, Brossart was soundly beat throughout the game. I hope Brossart's program is successful in the coming years. Until they strengthen their schedule it will never happen. You can have a winning season and build players stats, but it becomes meaningless. You will only be successful when you find out what you have to compete with the better teams and advance to the next level. Other than that, it's a sham and your program is only kidding itself on how to be successful. If you want to continue to be a second-tier program, stay the course. I say this with all due respect.

Mustang, I now have listened your broadcast twice. You do a very nice job and are a champion for Brossart sports. NCC was the better team tonight. You always supported your Mustangs. Just a correction, his name is COLE not Coles (Just Kidding). We appreciate your respect and wish the Mustangs and you the best in the future.

NCC took advantage of Brossart miscues. NCC offensive and defensive line dominated the line of scrimmage. NCC did whatever they wanted. Brossart keyed on Cole which opened big opportunities for Collopy, Miles and Bivens. They all had nice games. The only suggestion I have for Brossart is not have a middle school coach go on social media and poke the bear. Bulletin board material can become a big motivator to a team that is already superior and looking forward to giving a beat down. The youth coach knows better.

It's about time this game is played.

If Brossart gets past Bellevue and NCC wins against Trimble it puts the teams on a course to play their first varsity game against each other. Would finally get a chance to see what each team is made of. Not many are talking about it yet, but I am sure it is on the mind of the players and coaches.

It's tuff when you only dress 18 for a game. Makes practice difficult. I did see Holmes coaches do a nice job when players came off the field. Always trying to coach the players up and learn from their mistakes. Sad to watch because Holmes was competitive years ago. Wishing them better fortune in the future. It's a tuff road until you get the numbers up.
