Newport Central Catholic 41 Bishop Brossart 14

NCC took advantage of Brossart miscues. NCC offensive and defensive line dominated the line of scrimmage.   NCC did whatever they wanted.  Brossart keyed on Cole which opened big opportunities for Collopy, Miles and Bivens.  They all had nice games.

The only suggestion I have for Brossart is not have a middle school coach go on social media and poke the bear.  Bulletin board material can become a big motivator to a team that is already superior and looking forward to giving a beat down.  The youth coach knows better.

Congrats to NCC. I thought it may be a little closer but they got a big win! Good luck in the next round!

Brossart had two opportunities for early game momentum.  The first a very near interception on the opening drive, and the second a loose ball fumble that the Breds recovered.  These would not have changed the outcome, NCC was the better team tonight, and I agree they dominated the line and only flags created negative yardage situations, but I do think that interception or recovered fumble may have narrowed the margin  and perhaps instilled some early game confidence.

The Breds are a very good Class 1A football team.  I'd like to see them play Sayre.  It think that would be a great game.  In my first time seeing the Breds this season I was impressed with the poise and confidence of Junior QB Miles, the speed of Collopy and the tough yardage ability of Coles.

For us, Cam Mandel did what Cam Mandel does, doing the best he could to gain yardage.  It wasn't easy.  Cam was obviously no stranger to the Breds defense who knew we would count on him.  He scored both of our touchdowns, one being a 75 yard footrace up the sideline to paydirt.  He graduates as our school recordholder for Most Rushing Touchdowns in a Season.  Our placekicker, SoccerStang, Max Runge was two for two tonight on PATs, bringing his season total to 53 for 55.

Our Mustangs close the book on the 2024 season at 9-3, with much work still to be done, as evidenced tonight.  Our cumulative score over our four game all-time series is Breds 238 to 14.  I will not live to see it but I do sincerely believe that there will come a time when the Brossart Mustangs will overcome this deficit and take the lead - but just not quite yet.

Good Luck To The Breds moving forward.

Mustang,  I now have listened your broadcast twice.  You do a very nice job and are a champion for Brossart sports. NCC was the better team tonight.  You always supported your Mustangs. Just a correction, his name is COLE not Coles (Just Kidding). We appreciate your respect and wish the Mustangs and you the best in the future.

And to add to your post game thread mustang.  I disagree.  I think with tonight’s dominating performance and and a new football stadium.  This year has set Brossart football back years.  You said they were closing the gap and would take over.  And regardless of an early interception it wasn’t close.

I also said that the interception would not have changed the outcome.  NCC was the better team tonight.

I further stated that I wouldn't live to see it.  NCC has a storied past dating back to when they won the first of 25 District Championships in 1965.  They netted 14 Regional Titles and five KHSAA State Championships, with the most recent being in class AA in 2012.  I am stating that they have had their hay day, while our Football Program didn't start until 2007, and with our logistical advantage and success in the younger ranks, I feel that our best days are certainly in front of us.

Mustang: I think you were trying to make a positive out of a bad situation. I respect you and your effort, Brossart was soundly beat throughout the game. I hope Brossart's program is successful in the coming years.   Until they strengthen their schedule it will never happen.  You can have a winning season and build players stats, but it becomes meaningless.  You will only be successful when you find out what you have to compete with the better teams and advance to the next level.  Other than that, it's a sham and your program is only kidding itself on how to be successful. If you want to continue to be a second-tier program, stay the course. I say this with all due respect.

I think the Mustangs are doing just fine.  Scheduling more difficult teams would not have made a difference in this game.  The Brossart football program is trending upwards while Newport Central Catholic is trending downwards.  Brossart’s program is less than 20 years old but they are catching up with their own field and indoor facility.  It takes generations to build a program and NewCath has had 70 years to do so.  While they do play a tough schedule, they also play Walton-Verona, Holmes, and Scott (along with their district) who aren’t exactly contenders.

I guess it depends on how you define successful. Some say the only success is a state title. Is losing in the 3rd or 4th round that much better than losing in round 2?  New Cath was the better team. If they lose next week I believe their season was successful.  I also believe Brossart had a successful season.

I meant no disrespect to Mustang.  I think he does an excellent job. If you think money and facilities will bring you championships, I think you are misled.  Brossart has some nice sports programs, both male and female.  I you keep your schedule like it is your players will not be prepared to play better teams in the playoffs. An example would be Dayton loss last year and NCC this year.  They need to get in the weight room and become more physical.  I would hardly consider NCC on a downward slide.  Year after year they find themselves going deep in the payoffs.  I think the future is just fine going forward at NCC. Just as a disclaimer I did not attend NCC and don't have a dog in the fight. My points are just an outsider's observation.

Were you at the game? Brossart trending upwards and NCC trending downwards after what happened last night is a ridiculous statement.  It makes me question any kind of credibility you think you may have when talking about high school sports on a message board. What or who is Brossart FB program catching up to?
