I guess it depends on how you define successful. Some say the only success is a state title. Is losing in the 3rd or 4th round that much better than losing in round 2?  New Cath was the better team. If they lose next week I believe their season was successful.  I also believe Brossart had a successful season.

Yes, I would say losing in the third or fourth round is much better than losing in the second round. Playing in a regional championship (3rd round) and playing in Final Four (4th round) is a bigger deal and garners respect from around the state.

Brossart hasn't won their district since the realignment, because they can’t beat Ludlow.

I honestly could not tell you the last time NCC lost their district.

success is definitely different according to each program. Until Brossart gets to competing at NCC’s level, the beat downs NCC will hand Brossart in round 2 will only continue.

Brossart needs to deal with Ludlow before they even think about beating NCC.

I think the Mustangs are doing just fine.  Scheduling more difficult teams would not have made a difference in this game.  The Brossart football program is trending upwards while Newport Central Catholic is trending downwards.  Brossart’s program is less than 20 years old but they are catching up with their own field and indoor facility.  It takes generations to build a program and NewCath has had 70 years to do so.  While they do play a tough schedule, they also play Walton-Verona, Holmes, and Scott (along with their district) who aren’t exactly contenders.

I wouldn’t exactly say NCC trending down. I also don’t think your it takes generations to build a program is true, as other newer programs like Brossart have had more success. So I do wonder at what point will people stop using the Brossart is a new program as an excuse, when they have been around over 20 years. Especially when other NKY teams that are newer like Brossart have had more success. Cooper has been two state title games, a state semi finals appearance, and trending towards even more this year. Walton-Verona has been to regional championship games and a state semi finals appearance. Holy Cross which isn’t to much older than the Brossart program has won a state title. To me the newer program excuse doesn’t hold much weight anymore.

Now with that said I think coach K did a very good job in year one. The program has nice facilities and a good feeder system. So the things are there, for them to have more success. Now just have to go get it done. Which as a program now I don’t think there is any reason why Brossart and NCC shouldn’t play every year in the regular season. For Brossart that should be a game you want to play every year to show where you are in relation to  NCC. You got out there and play with NCC and beat them, then it shows Brossart is where players should go for football not NCC. It’s a game that needs to be played every year, and the whole newer program thing shouldn’t be a thing anymore IMO.

It’s adorable that little brother thought they had a legitimate chance in this one.

But hey, that middle school championship though… ???

There’s fewer things on Earth more dillusional than the Alexandria Elite.

God love the small school rivalry...

If they don't win that district they are in trouble lol. I really don't think NCC is Brossart's benchmark. Brossart is a good school as is NCC. Both offer good programs for all of their students in academics and athletics. Maybe this year the Breds will make a deeper run. Good luck.
