I really do not understand what the point of this is. I think pretty much everyone already knows this stuff, and nobody questions how great Pitino was when he was here. Most of the top coaches in the nation wouldn't compete with the numbers that Pitino had here during his run at UK. So it is just not Tubby that doesn't do that well against those Pitino stats, most coaches wouldn't have done that well against those stats of Pitino when he was here. Pitino however would not have kept us up at that pace the whole time, because we were on the peak of the mountain and there was only one way to go down from there, and not to mention the whole landscape of college basketball has changed alot since his run here at UK. And I am not going to go into all of that right now because it would make my post alot longer, but if you would want me to I gladly will...Once again this thread is pretty much pointless, because most people already know all of this stuff... Son of Bear
Some things that stick out to me: 1) 1st round draft picks. Rick was bringing in much better talent then Tubby is. 2) Home losses. The Cats really did "protect this house" under Rick. 3) Beating top notch teams in the NCAA tourney. The stat about only beating a #5 or better once since 98 is shocking. This all boils down to recruiting IMO. Both are great coaches but Rick brought in better players than Tubby, thus allowing him to compete with the big dogs in the big games. TubbyCAT
So w/your logic Eagle 8 we shouldn't count Roy William's championship at UNC b/c he didn't recruit any of those players either? Come on that is silly!!! I am not sure what the Games Played at a Certain ranking proves to be honest! How does that fit into all of this and how good a coach is? So if Bobby Knight doesn't coach a certain number of games having his team ranked at top-5 spot then he can't coach?
ladiesbballcoach
If you want Rick as your coach, root for Louisville. I can tell you there is about 18% of the fans that the other 82% would have no problem seeing you wear red.

Hangman
Does anybody remember that time that Kentucky fired Rick Pitino because they would rather have Tubby Smith? Oh wait... I don't either... Pitino quit! Live with it.

hardball
I hate Pitino/Tubby comparisons. The game is different today, just ask Pitino (the same guy that missed the tourney last year and is borderline this year). Here's another silly comparison to help lend some perspective: Pitchers were better in the 1980's than they are today because they gave up fewer runs and home runs then. We all know better than that, don't we? Maybe Pitino will come back and UK can play in the NIT...
