On paper, this is an incredible slate of championship games...

1A: Beechwood (11-2) vs. Pikeville (11-2)

Beechwood's looking for the three-peat, squaring off against the last 1A school to hand them a loss (2015 1A championship game). At this point, it's safe to say that these are the two best teams in this class.

2A: Mayfield (14-0) vs. CAL (14-0)

Just like 1A, it appears we have the two best teams in the class playing for the hardware. Each team is looking to take back 2A supremacy before the landscape changes next year.

3A: Corbin (13-1) vs. Central (12-2)

The Hounds exacted a measure of revenge over 3A front-runner Boyle County in the semis to set up the rematch of last year's nail biter semi-final between Corbin and Central. The Yellowjackets have 3A’s top defense, surrendering just 82 points through 14 games.

4A: Franklin Simpson (13-1) vs. Johnson Central (13-1)

These two have been the class of 4A three years running. JC manhandled FS two years ago, while the Wildcats snatched the crown off of JC's head last year. If you're a fan of old school, physical, run heavy football, this is your game.

5A: Covington Catholic (14-0) vs. South Warren (14-0)

Clearly the two best teams in 5A this year, by a considerable margin. Both coaches have championship rings. Both teams boast multiple FBS recruits. #1 vs. #2… enough said.

6A: Male (13-1) vs. Scott County (11-3)

This is probably the least expected championship game of the six. Male had to beat St. X and Trinity in consecutive weeks to get here. And Scott County had to find its mojo and put an end to the meteoric rise of top ranked Frederick Douglass. But these two teams are playing the best football in 6A at the moment. Then again, they're playing the only football in 6A at the moment.
