Personally I don't buy into the Chuck Norris has to ask Chuck Smith for permission to use the name mentality that many on here seem to have for Mr. Smith. He's an outstanding coach, no doubt but so are (or were) Dale Mueller, Bob Redman, Jeff Marksbury, Kevin Wallace, Chris Wolfe and others. Bob Beatty has beaten them all.

Would be a great hire. I got the feeling from his comments when he left Central that he wasn't shutting the door on being a head coach again.

I'm pretty surprised by this. But it goes to show you that THE GAME (X vs T) matters most. If you can't beat the other or at least once in a while, you likely won't last long. Close isn't good enough...

 

I hope they get a good coach!

Not totally shocked. Admin probably was expecting more out of this era, but was probably a good bridge between Glaser and the next era of Tiger football.

 

I just hope the admin holds a fair and open search. If they do that then they’ll find a lot of quality candidates to choose from.

How old is Smith?

 

Smith went to play at UK in 1977 so I'm guessing almost 60. Since he spent several years coaching at UK under Rich Brooks and Joker Phillips I have no idea where he would stand on teacher retirement. With any private school (Newport Catholic, St. X; CAL is Lefors were to leave) you have to factor in outside employment for coaches.

Come to think of it, I believe Coach Glaser is about 64-65.
