Next District Realignment?

Recommended Posts

It will eventually. Three of those schools are within 5 minutes of each other in the same county but in three different regions? That is a ridiculous situation the KHSAA needs to remedy.

As a 8th Region person, I know the travel for Simon Kenton and Walton is not ideal. Same for us going up to N.Ky. in the winter.

Walton is located in Boone Co. and would make more sense to either join the other Boone Co schools (Conner,Boone Co, Cooper,Ryle) or Keep them where they are as they are closer to Williamstown, Grant Co, SK than Dixie or Scott.

KHSAA needs a major realignment. There are too many 3-team districts in the west and east. Therefore, teams that are on the region borders need to push that way.

I'll help by starting this process: The Bullitt Co. schools need to be in the 5th, as does Spencer Co. Anderson Co. needs to be in the 12th. Hart/Caverna should go to the 4th, and probably Green Co. too. Boone Co. schools should be in the 8th. Probably can put Oldham Co. schools into one of the Louisville regions, and same with Shelby/Collins. Franklin Co./Woodford Co. schools to the 8th, but maybe not.

You 10th Region fans need to get over some old rivalries too. The 16th needs some of your teams so that their border teams can move south to the 15th.

The 8th Region does not need any more schools from N.Ky. The travel has already caused several big problems with weather since Simon Kenton and Walton arrived. My solution would be to place both of them back in the 9th Region. Simon Kenton and Scott should both be in the same region as Dixie, they are in the same county and five minutes from each other. But those three are in three different regions! Highlands should be in the 10th Region with Campbell County and Brossart. Trade Highlands for Scott, 10th to 9th. That would work out great for both if Simon Kenton goes back to the 9th because you will have three Kenton County schools (Dixie, Scott, Simon Kenton) in the same district.

No choice. There are currently 28 schools (27 if you consider CovCath/NotreDame one, which is appropriate here) in Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties playing basketball. "The Old 9th Region" hasn't worked for some time. There are now 20 schools in the 9th. It needs more trimming, and shipping Boone schools to the 8th is the logical move.

If you're talking strictly about proximity, what about the other schools in Kenton County?? Beechwood, Holmes, Lloyd, Holy Cross, Covington Catholic, Ludlow and Calvary are all very close to each other. Why single out just the Kenton County School district schools? I'd say all of them with the 3 Kenton County Schools are within a 9-10 mile radius. If it's just about proximity, a district of Holmes, Holy Cross, Scott and Calvary makes the most sense. With the number of schools in Kenton County alone you could draw up 10 different districts and none of the alignments would create a district where teams would be more than 10 minutes apart. It's my understanding (and it may not be true, it's just what I've heard from several people) that the Kenton County School board has requested that Scott, Dixie, and SK all play in different districts/regions, and with the number of schools in the area (including all the Boone and Campbell County Schools which are all very close as well) it's an easy request to accommodate. And really, it's probably the best thing for the 3 schools athletically. I get the travel issues Sk and Scott end up with regionally, but with the number of schools in the area, someone is going to get stuck traveling, otherwise the 9th region would just be too big. Putting the three KCBE teams together in one district would be absolutely brutal, as all three schools are typically very competitive in most sports.

There are currently 19 teams in the 9th region. You could take all 4 Campbell Co schools, and Scott High from the 10th, and take Simon Kenton, Grant Co, Walton-Verona, Williamstown from the 8th and you are at 28 teams. You could then take 4 more teams and have 2 16 team regions right here in Northern Kentucky. Possible candidates could be Pendleton Co., Gallatin Co, or head down the double A and pick up Bracken Co and Augusta.

I think the next realignment may go back to only Jefferson County schools in the 6th and 7th. There are enough teams to do that. I suspect the Bullitts will go to the 5th while the Oldhams stay in the 8th.

It would be a tough row to hoe for the Saints for sure. But that usually comes with the territory regardless of district alignment. I also would like to see them enjoy more success in the post-season.

And I'm old enough to remember St. Pat beating Mason County (1998, regular season), advancing to the semis of the All-A (1998, losing a heartbreaker to University Heights), a magical 2000 season (beating Mason County on the way to running the table in the district, losing another heartbreaker in the regional tourney, 61-60 to Bishop Brossart), another fine season in 2008. It does seem that they've drawn the big blue straw more than their share of times over the years.

The Owens need to have some more boys up there in Maysville! Great family and great ball players.

I do not see any of these occurring. If anything the 10th may get an 11th region member (Scott Co) to make room for the new Fayette County High School under construction at Hamburg.

Haven't heard anything lately about the new school in Scott County? Has it been tabled?
