And here lies the problem that the Republicans don't see. So many times, statements regarding Dems end with one final dig about how stupid, uninformed, lazy, they are or with some other insult. We keep hearing about how evil or immoral D's are. It's not enough to disagree...gotta say something mean too. And then all the constant gloom and doom predictions about where the Dems are going to take us. But yet, those predictions never materialize, and they fail to recognize the good things that happen. That's what is turning off the voting base.

So it's just Republicans that do it? There has never been any hyperbole from the Dems with regard to race issues, women, workers rights etc.?

It's not so much what you said that is incorrect. It's how you say it. Once you quit ending your posts with things like "doesn't matter to the lemmings that will follow her off a cliff," then maybe people across the aisle will actually agree with you.

I could very easily agree with you if the vitriol from the other side wasn't as noxious. If you want to see a prime example of that look at the way Obama slams people that disagree with him and them tries to convince people that he is ready to work with the other side.

I'm just talking about here on BGP.

Exactly. I am not going to vote for Hillary but I still identify myself as a democrat. Nothing turns me off more than that one final dig at democrats that always seem to happen.

GOP 84%

Constitution 79%

Libertarians 70%

Democrats 69%

Green 55%

Socialist 13%!!

Pretty accurate for me: I would consider myself conservative on fiscal, to moderate on social issues, while being more liberal regarding environmental issues.

By ideology, I am a Centrist leaning to the right.

Of course not. But you mention hyperbole....don't confuse hyperbole with personal attacks. BGP is a synopsis of what I see on Facebook, social media and water cooler discussion. As an outsider (someone not from this area) I'm astounded by how personal the attacks get in this part of the country. Just review any political thread on this board and honestly look at how many conservative arguments are punctuated by statements that are just plain mean or insulting. And I know the conservative's outnumber liberals here, but you can't honestly say that the conservative vitriol you see here isn't much more meaner spirited. And the excuse that "the other side is doing it too" has got to stop holding water at some point in time before anyone can move forward.

I'm not a democrat, but it's the exact reason I find myself typically arguing or disagreeing with most republicans and conservatives on here. The vitriol and hatred they spew towards the other side makes me want to defend the other side.

The vitriol makes it hard to see and hear the message.

I certainly can. I've seen conservatives accused of racism, misogyny, homophobia, stupidity et al in various discussions on here. I would say it's fairly equal in severity.

And I would put forth that the vitriol has now become so accepted because the leaders do it so well. Obama can preach bi-partisanship one minute and the next excoriate people who disagree with him.

I'm sure you've stated this before, but why have you closed the door on Hillary?

I only ask because I like hearing why people don't vote for a person running for office as a member of their political party. I have heard other Democrats say they aren't voting for her.

I personally see her in a similar light as Mitch McConnell (very influential, very electable; but sleazy & unlikeable).
