ThrillVille Cardinal51
Had it my senior year of high school during football. AWFUL pain! Back then they just had me come in one day and cut them all out. Why didn't you just pop some salt tablets and walk it off?
akw4572
I had it something awful. I tried the insoles, cortisone shots, and wearing that godawful boot at night they made me wear. Nothing worked. I finally had surgery. I went to Greg Worley, who is part of Northern KY. Foot Specialists on Boone Aire Road. He did a cryogenic procedure where they numbed my foot, cut 3 "slits" in it around where the pain was, and inserted this thing that looked like a wood burning tool (I watched the whole thing). They cryogenically froze my nerves, and after 12 hours, I had ZERO pain. I now treadmill walk and am getting into some running as well. It's been 3 years, and I've had zero problems. Both feet. I highly recommend it. Changed my life. If you google plantar fascitis cryogenic, you'll find some good articles on it. People have had excellent results, and it's relatively quick and easy. Every now and then, I see an athlete who is suffering from it, and I wonder why they don't just have the procedure.
Blue Magic
Had it during a growth spurt about 5 years ago. I feel your pain brother.
Bluespecter
Funny how that works. I met Randy Parker for the first time back during basketball season and was positively dreading it. But once I was able to get past his laying there like a slug most of the time, it was a good meeting. Sometimes you get all worked up, then after it's all over you wonder what you were worried about in the first place. You should try watching him eat mashed potatoes at Christmas! It's disgusting! halfback20
I've had it before when I ran a lot. It was very painful especially in the mornings. I quit running and it's not so bad anymore. When I'm on my feet for very long they start hurting though. I run very little now so I don't have much of an issue with it.
hoops5
I have it on one foot. I know exactly what you are talking about with the morning pain! I try to stretch it as much as I can before I take that first step. It does not bother me as much while I am running, but the rest of the day it hurts. I was not aware that high arches are more susceptible. Took some of the thread advice and got some arch inserts for the shoes. Hopefully that will help. :thumb:

spindoc
I suppose I should be thankful for my flat feet.
Watusi
My 9 yr old son has had severe pain in his heel for about 3 days. It isn't sore when I push on it, there is not bruise visible or anything like that, but when he stands on it he has a lot of pain, especially first thing in the morning. He has managed to make it through the days OK but he is mostly walking on the ball of his foot and avoiding putting his heel down. He insisted on going to football practice today because their first game is tomorrow, but he is going straight to the pediatrician afterwards. He has never complained of this before, but Friday night after Belfry's football game he was limping and said his heel hurt. I immediately thought "stone bruise" but I don't think that is it. When questioned further he said his heels sometimes hurt after playing hard, but he just thought it was normal and never said anything. For those of you familiar with this condition, does this sound like he may have it? Whatever his issue, I hope it is treatable because it would break his heart to not be able to play football, especially after going through all the practices. hoops5
^Does he get some relief by stretching it? Stand on a tennis ball with the ball on the arch and rotate around. If that gives some releif, then it probably is the dreaded PF. You could probably find a link on-line with diagrams on how to stretch it out properly. Inserts help, maybe different shoes. Stay off his feet at other times when not doing football? Good Luck!
Watusi
The Dr thinks it might be plantar fasciitis. He has to rest it for a few days, ice it down, roll a frozen water bottle under his foot, etc. After the next 3 days, we will see if his symptoms are better or not. So he has to miss his first football game of the year. He is really disappointed (and so am I). Hopefully he will heal up and be able to play the rest of them.
