Serious question because I think it’s this way in Basketball (not sure Football other than being a Sr. Award) - is he eligible for Mr. Football if he wasn’t District Player of the Year? Which is an absolute joke he wasn’t by the way.

Not quite.

Not a pretty game from either team. 28-14 PT was the score in the Varsity portion. PT 6-0 in JV quarter. OC had 3 redzone turnovers and a missed FG. PT had a ton of penalties. Both botched a kick on special teams. But this is a good scrimmage for both of these teams to hopefully get those kinks worked out before the games matter.

Did OHS run a 60 day posting on Indeed that they are waiting to expire ? No reason with the candidates mentioned they shouldn’t have came to a conclusion already.

No doubt that Beechwood has tremendous track speed that correlates to good football players as well. OCath is not slow and they purposely scrimmaged Paducah Tilghman and put a team like North Hardin on their schedule because they don’t see a ton of speed in their district. This should be a great match up and I’m looking forward to this one likely being one of the best games of the whole weekend.

OC is the benefactor of having the Top RPI and having 3 of the Best 4 teams in the West. Beechwood is benefactor of being in the East. If they didn’t have it broken up by East/West in Round 3 you would see some incredible Semi Finals as 2A is clearly a 4 team class. With this years results so far you would likely put Mayfield as the 4th but with them hosting at War Memorial throw that out the window.

I wouldn’t think it would. OHS played toe to toe with Mayfield in a scrimmage and was a couple of bad calls away from beating the clear and away best team in 3A. OHS has plenty of talent. Unlike most years where the Aces come into this game as underdogs they probably don’t this year. But if OHS considers themselves a Top tier 5A program in the state (and their recent success says they are) they should never feel like they are the underdog in this one. I think it will be another great game with OC tacking on a score late and pulling away 35-20.

Excited to try and catch this one on Friday. I'm familiar with Martels Carter, Jack James, & Strickland kid from PT. I've heard they have had an influx of talent and offers going out to other players. Who are some other names to keep an eye and watch for on the Blue Tornado?

I expect them to be very good and in contention again. They bring back Brady Atwell and a lot on defense with a very talented 8th grade class who just won State. Expect Atwell and Vince Carrico to be a load on both sides of the ball and Rising Juniors Miles Edge and Cam James to play bigger roles on the offensive side.

I think your Top 6 are definitely the right teams and as someone mentioned their could be a lot more roster moves. Mayfield benefited from Biggers transferring in last year and who knows who will show up at LCA. O Cath is losing a little more than Beechwood but should be pretty stout so those two make sense. I’d probably have Murray ahead of Somerset but Somerset has a much easier path to advance further in playoffs.

“Tutt” Carrico definitely deserves to be mentioned on this list. Productive career and getting it done on both sides of the ball for undefeated Aces.

I got to make this game. At no point during this game did it ever feel like Green County would get a stop. They simply didn’t have the athletes to slow down the Owensboro Catholic offense even with they Seymour kid playing who was ejected last week. Green put together a nice first drive and got right inside the red zone before Tut Carrico just completely took the ball away from #4 from Green. After that the Aces defense tightened up and didn’t allow another first down until it was 50-0. Green didn’t punt on 3 consecutive possessions in their territory and gave the Catholic offense short field all night. #4 for Green was tough and run hard all night. He was a solid player but Green looked outmatched about everywhere else. I wouldn’t put Catholic as the favorite especially with what Mayfield did last night. And of course the 3 time defending champ Beechwood still hanging around, but if they can get past a very good Somerset team who is playing their best football. However if the Aces do make it they will be an extremely tough out for whoever wins that other semi final game.

This is spoken like a true Owensboro fan. Owensboro Catholic fans don’t get on here and talk like that. If that kid is out that is a huge loss for Green. I thought I heard or read somewhere you can’t appeal ejections anymore. We will see. As a O Cath fan I hope we get a big crowd out for this game. This is for a Regional Championship against a somewhat unfamiliar opponent and these kids deserve the support.

Why did the Seymour kid get ejected on a flag in 1st quarter? Was it his second unsportsmanlike? Throw a punch?

Sad thing is with the way the 3rd round is we will not see one of the top 4 teams in Semi-Finals. Already a lot of travel in 3rd round, I wish they would open up to 1-8 instead of 1-4 via East/West.

Campbell 10/27 at North Hardin The Aces return a lot of production and one of the best QB's in the Class of 25' in Brady Atwell. Do they have enough to compete with Mayfield and LCA in the West who both benefited from some transfers this offseason?

Not looking to start a separate debate but genuinely curious about this: I noticed both QB and RB for Mayfield took extra Covid year. I know people made a big deal out of “Super Seniors” a few years ago but how many players on both of these teams took the extra year?

Mayfield is a little more athletic in the secondary than Owensboro Catholic and I think that will be key for Mayfield. If Mayfield doesn’t turn the ball over they win here. If they turn the ball over and keep giving LCA some extra possessions this could be another instant classic just like Ocath and LCA was. As much as I’d like to pick LCA here since they beat my Aces, I’m going with Mayfield 35-27. Too long roads trips in a row and simply put Mayfield will not lose a home game in November, especially with the year that community has had.

Hats off to both teams for a heck of a HS Football game. Still a little confused on what happened at end of game with the clock. There was no communication from official and probably cost OC atleast one more play. Either way this was a fun Owensboro Catholic team to follow this year with a lot of key contributors coming back next year.

Excited to see this one in person. Should be the best game on this side of the state. Also, looking forward to seeing the Cutter Boley vs, Brady Atwell matchup. Two of the best QBs in the state and I think Atwell earns some more statewide respect after this one.

OHS 35-14. This is if Carbon is healthy. I know he sat out last game and not sure his status this week but I have to imagine he plays.

Todd County lost their starting QB to a hand injury in the middle of the Green County game. Credit to their coaches, their kids play hard to the final whistle. They did the same thing in 2nd half when I saw them vs. Owensboro Catholic.

A lot of people have been sleeping on Owensboro the last half of the year. They are getting healthy and a team you don’t want to see in playoffs.

Is Decker Renfrow out for Daviess County? Heard he got hurt at the end of the Apollo game but wasn’t sure the extent of the injury. He is definitely a difference maker for Daviess when on field and would be a big loss if out.

Apparently there were a few other self reported ineligible players this week that caused forfeits from earlier games. Either way Mayfield got a little bump and if everyone wins out tonight it will be interesting to see how everything shakes out. Whether you love or hate the RPI it has definitely made tonight a lot more interesting and must win scenarios for some teams.
