Devils Crank Up The Thermostat At Rash Stadium For A Warm Welcome To Cold Blooded Visitors

Records: Owensboro (9-2) | Greenwood (9-2)

BGP Ranking: Owensboro (#8 in 5A) | Greenwood (#9 in 5A)

Series History: Owensboro leads 11-0 all-time

Table Setter: This matchup of ranked teams could come down to which version of each team shows up. Greenwood failed miserably in its first attempt to break through the glass ceiling of Warren County football against Bowling Green, but made good on its second attempt a week later against South Warren. And no slight intended to Owensboro Catholic, but the Senior High team that lost to the Aces could unofficially usher in basketball season for the Red Devils. No one can afford an off night here.

The importance of Kenyata Carbon's status can't be overstated after he sat out the first round. He is Owensboro's most dynamic playmaker and would provide balance to the star power across the field in the form of Greenwood's Mr. Versatility, Lofton Howard. Watching those two play cat and mouse for four quarters would be a scintillating subplot to the game. For all the praise heaped on Lofton lately, it's no certainty he'll be the most impactful linebacker on the turf at Rash. Owensboro's Jeremiah Goodwin has terrorized opposing quarterbacks since his return from injury.

The Gators' futility against Bowling Green was referenced above, but they're also looking for a landmark win over the 5A power they'll see this week. Greenwood has never crossed paths with the Devils and walked away victorious.

Loftin Howard is a great player, but I believe Jeremiah Goodwin proves Friday night he’s the best line backer on this side of the state.

I don’t expect Greenwoods defense to give O anymore trouble than Henderson did. I think this is a game where the Red Devils need to hit short passes and just let the athletes work in space. Carbon is going to do what Carbon does in the run game. The way the Defense is playing right now I don’t see Greenwood being able to move the ball on a consistent bases to put enough points on the board. Plus it’s at Rash which will make it that much harder for the Gators as the Red Devils haven’t lost at home since the season opener of last years game against St. X.

Gators 10

Interesting game here.  Owensboro is clearly the favorite.  History and playing at Rash Stadium alone have the Gators down 7-0 out of the gate.  Greenwood needs O's QB to have an off night; try to bottle up the run and be able to control some of the clock.  They need a really good start to this game.  And they will likely need to win the turnover ball by 2.  Is that possible?  Sure, but it isn't likely.

O - 28

GW - 17

I think this is a really good Greenwood team.  Owensboro has a great defense, but covering Howard is going to be a challenge. Goodwin chasing the QB will negate some of that.  I think this will be a good game at half with Owensboro pulling away.  Both teams will be fired up and as long as O doesn’t lose the Turnover battle by 2 to 3 they win.

Devils 35-17

The rain in Fridays forecast favors Greenwood.

If this is Oweneboro 2 yrs ago maybe but majority of O’s offense this yr comes from rushing the ball or short passes. I don’t see rain changing to much in this game. IMO the rain would more than likely make Greenwood 1 dimensional hurting there chances.

According to some on here Greenwood has Superman on their team so Owensboro shouldn’t even show up.

Dude - he’s a good player and he doesn’t deserve the minimizing you do. Come on, give some respect to him.

These aren’t even Greenwood fans that are pumping him up.

He can’t. He’s done it all year. He hates GWood. We get that. He’s just a Purple you know. Bigger and better at BG

I think he’s a great player and a huge part of Greenwoods success I don’t want to take anything away from the young man. He’s just not better than Carbon(offense) and Goodwin(defense) is a better linebacker. He’s asked to do more for Greenwood playing all over the field as Goodwin and Carbon mostly play on 1 side of the ball even though they’re both elite players on the opposite side.

Greenwood has a few really good looking players.  Howard is a D1 guy and a great player looks like he goes both ways.  He will be really hard to defend due to his size and athleticism similar to Dane Key.  Elmo Smith and the RB are really good athletes.  Owensboro has very good speed across the board as well.  As Greenwood wouldn’t trade Howard, Owensboro wouldn’t trade Carbon nor Goodwin.
