Not Tony. Frank, upon closer inspection he probably needs more consideration on here as the greatest Red ever. He is clearly better than Larkin who is listed in the poll.

Perez played 16 years in Cincy, hit 287 HRs, 1192 RBIs and a .283 BA (.840 OPS).

 

Joe only played eight years in Cincy, hit .288 with 152 HRs, 612 RBIs, and a .288 BA

 

I give the edge to Tony for longevity and hitting lower in the order, not to mention Joe joined the Reds during their glory run of the 70s while Perez played in the mid to late 60s on not so good teams

I wasn't alive at the time but my father always says Tony Perez could get the 2-run single to take the lead/ice the game better than just about any one. Is that true?

Why not Tony? You ask any of the other big 3, and they all say Tony was the key to the big Red Machine's success both on the field, and in the clubhouse.

He was a career .284 with RISP.

 

Career .258 with RISP and 2 outs.

Truly a testament to how great the Big Red Machine was.

Pete leaves the Reds and goes to the Phillies and they win a World Series.

Larkin isn't geting much love but I think his "Red's" stats compare really favorably to Morgan's.

That being said I don't think either had the value of Rose or Bench.

Bill James' massive work Historical Baseball Abstract lists Joe Morgan as the #1 all time 2nd baseman based on his mathmatical formulas and win-shares system.

 

Johnny Bench ranked the #2 all time catcher behind Yogi Berra.

 

Pete Rose ranked #5 all time in RF.

 

Frank Robinson was listed #3 all time in RF.

 

Barry Larkin was ranked #6 at SS in the history of baseball with a couple of years left in his career.

 

FWIW: Concepcion was ranked #26, Perez #13 and George Foster #34 in LF.
