HT721
http://www.kentucky.com/454/story/359362.html We won't be playing black jack at the casino anytime soon in Ky!
Mr.Fundamental
A sad day indeed, who well, does anyone have the lottery numbers from Wednesday, hope to see you at the Bingo Parlor tonight!
ladiesbballcoach
Nice decision by the lawwmakers. This never needed to get to a popularity vote. The right thing to do is not always the most popular thing to do. As Piers said on Celebrity Apprentice last night, it was a business competition not a popularity contest. Same with this. For the benefit of KY, long term, it was the right thing to defeat this.
MoreheadEagle
Well I guess they're going to have to raise taxes to help fix some budget problems. Oh well, I'll still go to Kenneland to gamble.

Covercorner
I expect the state to end the Lottery and close down all racetracks and OTB's as well, if we really are against gambling this much.

Birdsfan
Just proves what a backward state this still is. You have legislators that are more concerned with pleasing the self-serving interest groups than doing the right thing for the state. I guess we'll just have to keep bleeding our money away to the states just a few feet away.

I expect the state to end the Lottery and close down all racetracks and OTB's as well, if we really are against gambling this much. Not really. The question was not whether all gambling, even the ones that are present should be abolished. Rather the question was should new gambling outfits be allowed. The answer to that has been no. I hope future generations benefit from this generation saying no to casinos. The same way that we have had to deal with the decision made by past generations to allow the lottery and horsetracks. No hypocricy because the question was not put forth on all gambling but rather just casino gambling.

This whole thing was about putting it on the ballot and letting the people decide. IMO, the opponents knew it would pass if the voters had their say so they decided to kill it. Shame on them. What the people want is not always what is best for society. Example, put it on the ballot to get rid of all gasoline taxes that is used for road repairs and I bet it passes. I would guess that if you would put it on the ballot to get rid of other types of taxes that is used for important things, the abolishment of them would also pass. I think there is some debate if slavery was put to a vote before the Civil War, keeping it might have passed also.

The people need to vote in people that are in favor of it. Thats how it works.
