  1. CSHS...So you can read body language? The Las Vegas oddsmakers must be worried to death.
  2. Punthe ball got it right! If Rash is worrying about leaving 24 seconds on the clock when he has not yet scored the tieing td, he needs to do something else for a living. Quickslick...you need to re-think that one and stop being so condescending about how much more forethought you have than others.
  3. I don't thonk there was a single penalty called vs CoVCa th all night. That is just a comment and not a complaint as I did not see any missed calls. I fail to understand the Beechwood play calling. It was not that they did not pass often enough, it was that every call until the final drive was a bomb and there were only 2 receivers down field. On the final drive the coaches began calling for short passes and the receivers made great runs after the catch. Beechwood looked to be totaly disorganized throughout the entire game. I was too far away to comment about the touchdown call (or lack thereof), but Beechwood players up and down the line raised their arms in the TD signal. Any positive comments concerning the lighting are mis-placed. The lighting was terrible in quantity and naturally the towers were only about 20' off the ground.
  4. On behalf of the "Old Timers", I submit the following: Holmes....Bob White AA at Ohio State and Rose Bowl star. Also Dave Bishop of Eastern Ky where he led the OVC in rushing. Dayton: John "Deep" Wing who I believe went to a service academy. Bellvue: Pat Uebel who scored the winning touchdown in the Army-Navy game when that game was a big deal. Bob Daugherty went on to UK and was a key player for the Oakland Raiders. Highlands: Tom Rohrer who had super speed. Dixie: Larry Screiber who played in the AFL, Dave Browning and Tom Fry who were speedballs. Bardstown: Herbie Phelps who led the state in scoring by a large margin and went on to Alabama to play for "The Bear". More later.......
  5. Everyone knows someone with issues and as a former HR person I dealt with many employees who had health problems. I don't know what others did, but so long as they were working on solving the problem, I and the company would work with them. If they denied the problem or ignored it and left others to deal with it, they were subject to discipline just as if the act was willful. Sympathey, help and medical and financial support are usually there for those who want to take advantage of it. Those who do not cannot be tolerated forever. I don't have knowledge of Coach Yeagle's personal situation, however, as a Beechwood supporter, I wish him well with whatever problem he has.
  6. Beechwood looked bad in pre-season. I know Highlands and Boone Co are excellent, however, a dropped pass when you are open etc. etc. are not always the result of the other team's play. It looked like more of the same after the first quarter today as Dixie pushed Beechwood around and Beechwood left the ball on the ground. After the first quarter Beechwood found themselves and played better. With 5 minutes to go, I was satisfied that Beechwood had given a good effort against a skilled and very big, strong Dixie team. But Beechwood did not think it was over and Cody Elliot went to work and pulled out the game, largely by his own effort and as stated elsewhere, partly due to Dixie tiring and a very questionable pass call. Dixie has nothing to be ashamed of and I am not at all sure that the better team won. I expect Dixie to have a fine season.
  7. I see that Bowling green has three players in the top 25 again this year. That means that they had a total of six top rated players on the field last ywear when they met CCH. All of No. Ky has 2 players in the top 50 and Buckley who ran all over the place in the State Championship game, did not make the top 50. And some other parts of the state claim they get no respect!
  8. Sandman...I park in the Bank lot too, I just don't tell everyone about it lest it fill up before I get there.
  9. The thing that concerned this Beechwood fan the most was the fact that the players who were most exploied By BC were the same players who were exploited by Highlands. It appears that Beechwood has some serious holes. For those who questioned Beechwood scheduling the Rebels, there have been years when Beechwood would have defeated Boone. This is definately not one of them as Boone was far superior to a Beechwood team that may well be a over rated.
  10. I am a Beechwwod fan and My grandson and I both thought he was out of bounds. On that same play the refs ignored one of the most blatant clips imaginable and it happened right in front of them. The rest of the night they called a very good game and in no way affected the outcome. They realized it was a scrimmage and probably did not call everything they saw.
  11. The Spartans practice from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm, but only the first half hour is in pads. Seems sensible to me.
  12. There is a huge tournamnet starting on UC's campus in July 6th. Check the players out for yourself.
  13. He got the best of it on several calls, not the least of which was the walking call that happened when Rice rebounded the ball and the Scott Co. player moved under him. When Rice came down he over the player who had moved under him and fell hard to the floor. He was called for walking. That one drew some well deserved boos from the neutrals. As I posted elsewhere, I object to the referees spending their time outs talking with Hicks and they did it at just about every time out. I also feel that Holmes' coach needed to protest some oof the calls. There is a reason that you protest calls. Ivan Lendl often said that if you are quiet and your opponent complains, it makes it easy for the referees to take the path of least resistence. Al McGuire, Pat Riley, Phil Jackson and many other great coaches did not and do not suffer in silence.
  14. Hill played hard but waited a bit too long to take over. Rice played well. Jefferson may want to buy up all of the copies of this one and burn them. He certainly did not save the best for last. Guard play absolutely killed us. Walls may be the best player in the tournament. Scott Co. is very good. Henley needed to get his hands out of his pockets and work the refs a bit. When Hicks beckoned the refs came running and listened attentively. They would then run to the other refs and discuss something. I don't think Hicks was telling him things to help Holmes. If it were my call I would have protested to all of these private conversations. I realize that referees do need to talk to coaches, but not every time a coach crooks his finger and not for extended periods of time.
  15. Holmes fouled 2 three point shooters and both were awarded three shots and cashed in on 5 of 6 foul shots. They cannot do that tomorrow. Jefferson was a huge help on the boards. He rushed the boards from the guard position and used great anticipation to pick up rebounds and they were not long rebounds either. I think the box score will show close to 10 rebounds if it is accurate. Henderson played great on defense as always, but is offensive game was well off. I will be cheering them on tomorrow, however, I don't think Holmes has the depth to play with Scott Co.
  16. I saw all three of the LexCath teams and joined the crowd of those who thought that they were a lock. They have had some super teams that just did not get it done.
  17. The Hazard announcer must not have seen Fairdale vs S. Laurel. Not only was the game poorly played, but it looked to me like it was because no one could play. I expect they (Hazard announcers) will have a different take after the Holmes vs S. Laurel game as I expect Holmes to give them fits.
  18. Hill was the best player to perform in the evening session. That may not be much of a boast however. The S. Laurel vs Fairdale game was a real yawner. I rooted for "no overtime".
  19. Draw or no draw St. Henry would have played on Saturday, but for the injury to Otte. Even the Mason Co. fans who sat near me had mixed emotions. They knew they were advancing because of an injury and no one with any sense wants to see a kid injured, especially in that situation.
  20. I have been to 50 of them. Have friends who are on their 54th straight. I missed one due to attending NCAA finals (when Andrews hit shot from half court) and could not go when I was a student because it was finals week. Thus I missed the great Ashland team that some think was the best team to ever play in the tournament. I also missed Unseld. Every time I miss one, it turns out to be a classic so I don't intend to miss another one. Guru needs to post my picture of Hurt knocking the ball out of the basket.
  21. KyBuckeye....I could not care less about either team, but you took a lot of words to not offer a legitimate explanation. How much space does it take to include a score and an explanation that more complete coverage will follow later.
  22. The second half was very ugly. The number of missed layups, free throws and the turnovers just kept mounting. Earlier in the year someone posted that this was a down year for N. Ky. and after watching both games last night I must agree. The Holmes-St. Henry game was poorly played also. Neither team could make a foul shot and St. Henry's normallty excellent ball handling went South. Holmes, as usual, shot poorly from beyond 8 feet and finally decided to just take it inside and use their superior jumping ability and strength to take over the game. I look for a great game tonight, but whomever survives had better bring their "A" game in the State Tournament.
  23. St. Henry is very well coached. Their cuts to the basket for open layups were very impressive. Their guards use the bounce pass which I was starting to think was a lost art. They will be an interesting matchup for Holmes as Holmes is foul prone and will reach in a lot. Overall, I think Holmes will be too much for them on the boards, but there will not be a blow out.
  24. Nkboy got it right. Jefferson has regressed. It might be due to injury, but regardless of the reason he is not among the ten best in the region. I likeNKboy's list!
  25. NewCath did not get a 3 point lead in the second half. They got within 1 point and then Kiernan missed a layup that would have given them the lead. Holmes had a 5 point trip shortly thereafter and Holmes went on from there. Kiernan played too many minutes and in one stretch was too exhausted to go beyond the top of the circle at the defensive end and Holmes got a bunch of easy baskets. I am not knocking Kiernan as he gave it all he had and played very well. I did not think Holmes played all that well and Hill had his second sub par game in a row. Rice and Henderson were outstanding on both ends of the floor.
