theguru
I will post more later but unless the ones played more late I believe it was 21 to 7 Highlands (ones only). In short, Beechwood played Highlands close to even early but the longer the scrimmage went on the more Highlands took over and this was all without Highlands starting QB playing. leatherneck
Beechwood looked pretty good to me, don't you think Ru? Nice line on both sides of the ball; Bankemper looked tough (really hardnosed aggessive kid); qb looked good. I can't see many teams in A giving them much of a challenge. More about the Birds later. theguru
Other than the punting game by Beechwood they did look pretty good. I know I come across arrogant when I say this but if Beechwood doesn't have any injuries they will wipe out all the other Class 1A teams. I have seen a lot of Beechwood football and this Tiger team is loaded. Bankemper looked like a bulldozer in high gear but he came out of the game too much for my taste unless this was by design. Elliot (the QB) did look really good both running and throwing. Beechwood is enormous up front and surprisingly they looked to be in pretty good shape (but not as good as the Birds). Normally Beechwood has more than their share of fat kids but not this year. Beechwood needs MAJOR help with their punting. The snaps were poor and the punter (who has a very powerful leg) needs a lot of work with his technique. Brandon Berger is on the staff and he is a former punter (and was an excellent one at that) so I would like to see him get involved with the punting game. Had this been a real game the punting snafus would have been one of the keys to the Beechwood defeat.
cshs81
Regardless of the classification of the opponent, Beechwood is going to be tough to beat this year. 1A simply will not be fair.
Birdsfan
I know this is repeating some of what has already been said, but here goes. HHS won 49-14; but most of that came with the subs in action. Early in the game, Beechwood led 14-7. Then the format switched from a 10 and 10 to a more realistic game format. That's when the Birds seemed to pull away. The Birds' defense looked good tonight, They forced quite a few turnovers, and pressured the QB well. The offense sputtered out of the gate; but picked it up and pulled off some of those traditional Bluebird breakaways for TDs. Looks like we'll be good in the speed department, and saw some willingness to hit people from our running backs and receivers. Guidugli looked pretty good, and Bardo had a good showing. Guidugli may be a little further along; but Bardo has a heck of an arm! Beechwood is going to be a monster this year! They have one of the biggest lines I've seen around here in years! BIG BOYS!! Bankamper is lightning fast and gets around the corner with ease. He's going to be an impact player in the region, in my opinion. Well, that's how this fan saw it. Now everyone can tell me how wrong I am.

3ptshooter
Let me shed some light on the BHS team. The snapper was out, middle line backer was out so bad snaps on punts and HHS ran all over up the middle. HHS is HHS, not real big but very quick and strong and disciplined, yet missing the starting QB. I thought Guildulgi did OK but mishandled several snaps. BHS will be OK w/the schedule they play and very well come tourney time. Bankemper came out to give Teipel some time to see what he could do. The entire left side of the line has been limping around for a few weeks so the scrimmage was their first taste of a long practice. These are the two best teams in NKY, IMO! KY1234
Both teams are extremely GOOD. If you are going to beat Highlands, you better be quicker than them, which may be difficult to accomplish. If you are planning to beat Beechwood, you better get up early and wear them out. I thought they were NOT in shape up front. I believe 7-8 kids were going both ways. If Beechwood just lines up in that double tight I formation, NO TEAM in Class A will match up. They will roll thru Class A and give CCH and Dixie a run for their money. All in all, two great teams with 2 great staffs going at it and it will be an exciting year for both of them.
LUVTHEM&MS
Good points by everyone!!!! If this would of been a real game with a 4th quarter then Highlands would of been the victor by an easy margin!!!! Highlands started simply wearing the Beechies down period. Early in the week someone questioned why people were allready crowning Beechwood Class A Champs. Guess what boys, there's a freight train running loose in Class A. I hope everyone is ready and i know some people will be saying that it is not fair letting Beechwood stay in the smaller class. It be like Highlands staying in 3A!!!!! Qryche11
I heard the Peko kid didnt play either. I couldnt attend but while sitting in the parking lot at Walgreens waiting for my wife to come out I called a buddy who was in the stands. Here was his take. Highlands 1st teamers pretty much handled the Beechies but Bankemper did look good and they are huge. He mentioned Brandon Roller (Sophomore) really standing out a couple of times on Defense. I believe he is a down lineman who has good quickness and a linebacker body. Lets see, I think he mentioned the Birds broke off several long runs, Collinsworth scored and looked very good in the backfield. Oh, and Josh Connor scored on a nice run. The Birds look to be loaded in the backfield. Think about it, Hurtt/Crawford and Cecil were out and what is left? Conner and Collinsworth....not too shabby. He mentioned Tyler Fennell came in and did a good job running the ball for the 2nd teamers and Travis Alford was in the backfield as well. 1st team Db's (?) for the Birds this year seemed to look good as well. Thats about all I could get in before I had to hang up. Its funny, we drove by the High school on the way home and she said to me.... you probably wish you were there dont you? You know what my reply was... I dont even think I have to say it. : )
