Beechwood did not dominate the game? 48-14. Good teams make their opponents screw up.

Holmes put up 33 on Dixie. You got to give CCH defense some credit. I will admit that the QB was very good, but he had 15 carries for 10 yards. He got hit hard early and kept limping off the field. Holmes is a very improved team. CCH has kept two good QB's in check (BW's and Holmes QB) so at what point is NKY going to give them respect.

If I was Holmes, I would be more upset that CCH's defensive coordinator did not let them score.

The 3 back set is a great offense. Highlands has a 3 back set (QB in the gun with two RBs). It is just a little fancier than the wishbone or power I formation. Offensive and defensive schemes run their cycles, dissappear and come back again. Many NCAA I teams are using the jet sweep, which is part of the wing t, invented 50-60 yrs ago.

Seth Tepe of COV CATH is improving each week. With a great off season, he can be a dominant OL in NKY next year.

Excellent point. Another offensive player cannot aid the forward progress of the ball carrier.

Beechwood has an excellent coaching staff. I think some credit needs to go to the CCH defense. Both teams, by playing hard, made the other look unproductive at times. The atmosphere at CCH was AMAZING.

What about Bankamper's fumble in the third quarter?

Down 15-7 with the ball on the 20 late in the 2nd quarter, CCH throws a costly interception in the endzone - right when CCH had the momentum. Highlands made the plays today (and their experience showed) and CCH did not. At 1-4, this team is getting closer to becoming a quality football team. I noticed Pat Vansant was back healthy today. With Buckley healthy by week 9-10, look out. Good luck Colonels.

Option 1's problem is that 3-7 team (who finishes top 2) gets into the playoffs while the 7-3 team (who is 3rd in the district) sits at home. Non-District games become meaningless. I would have to vote for Option 2. The fact that our state is smaller and we can do this can be viewed as a good thing, in my opinion.

One last comment: I think Ky high school fans are shorting ourselves by comparing ourselves to Ohio. It is apples and oranges. The top 5% of teams could compete against the top 5% of teams over there. Trinity almost got X a week ago, right? But the top 25% could probably not compete against their top 25%. It is just a numbers thing. Compare two different schools valedictorians and they are probably the same but the top 20% against each other might be a differnt matter due to numbers or demographics. I think we just need to be proud of KY football.

A few thoughts: 1. Most NCAA fans complain about BCS point system - so why bring it into KY. The only thing it would benefit would be Bluegrass Preps - it would be a very broad topic of debate if we moved to this system. 2. Many very good football teams do not make the playoffs when they are 7-3 or 8-2. Look up the Joe Eitel power rankings here on this website over the past 4-5 seasons. http://www.joeeitel.com/hsfoot/ 3. Ohio teams are in the business of scheduleing "wins" not teams. NCC last year loses to Ryle and CCH early and begin the season 2-5. In Ohio, they are finished for the season. In KY, they have a Cinderella season. This is the beauty of sports and why all sports fans look forward to March Madness each year. 4. More teams playing one more game is great for every kid who suits up. Maybe we just need to think of it as a tournament, not a playoff. What is wrong with that. 5. Scheduling would be very tough if team stayed in their class. Holmes/Dayton game and NCC/CCH game may or not take place. Instead these teams are taking bus trips deep into KY for winnable games. Even though this year the smaller school is beating the bigger one, it is probably not good practice year in and year out. 6. In Ohio, beating Colerain and beating Ameila is the same when comparing first level points. So if Ameila has an easy schedule and keeps winning, then that win is as good as the win vs. Colerain.

You are so right - I forgot. Maybe both of them will have a title. But I will say that BW/NCC playoff game has been a great playoff game over the years. I will miss that one.

The score does not indicate how close this game was. CCH played with some spirit and could have cut the lead to 7 with 5 minutes to go in the game. They also missed an early FG and had three turnovers work against them. At 0-3, this team looked and played differently compared to past weeks. Their WR's looked very good. The line finally began to block. Dixie is a very good football team but seemed to tire in the second and fourth quarters. If these two teams are 2 and 3 respectively in the District, this will be a classic match up for the first round playoffs. Dixie QB played his best game of the year and will continue to get better. NCC is a good football team. After shutting out CCH, they almost get a huge win over a good Rlye team. They may not be the second best in NKY but are 3-4 caliber. Boone or Beechwood must be considered 2-3. The Beechwood/NCC game is going to be a tough one. The problem with this is that it is hard to beat the same team twice - as proven in the playoffs in the past. I think the loser of this game beats them come playoffs. Good luck to NCC the rest of the way out.

Cov Cath is just not a good football team - yet. On a good note, they have proven to play some good defense. NCC rushed for 60 yds on 36 carries. That says alot. On the offensive side of the ball, they just lack speed and talent. Last year, they had 5 bruisers upfront with tremendous skill in the backfield. This year, they have one OL in Andy Schulte and 4 unproven juniors and sophomores competing for positions. I am not going to give up on them yet. Let's not forget they only had a few starters returning and two of those guys have not seen a snap (VanSant and Buckley). Noone really expected anything out of them, so why rip them? CCH was completely manhandled by LS. They wont face a tougher team on their schedule this year. This group of seniors better wake up or it will be a long season if they dont win this week. This lasalle team who returned most of last year's team lost 14-7to St. X last year and lost to Elder 34-35. LaSalle is going to be a tough opponent for all of the GCL schools. With this said, NCC is a team that CCH can beat. Good luck Colonels.

Dixie has a "big play" offense, but I just dont know if they can put together 10-12 play drives consistently. The passing attack looked strong against ncc and I think that could be BW's weakness (their secondary). I like Dixie in a close game. Beechwood is BIG but they best be ready to play 4 quarters if they expect to win this one.

Ryle better win the special teams side of the game if they want to stay in this one, but I dont see it happening. Highlands 14, Ryle 7 at the half. Highlands will be in better shap and win this one by 28!

Good points by Ram. NKY football is GREAT football. Drive out to the "sticks" in KY and you may or may not find a good football team. Drive out to the "sticks" in OHIO and there are great football programs everywhere. St. Mary's, Versailes, Jonathon Alder, Marion Local, Mechanicsburg, Valley View, Coldwater are just a few little "no name" schools relatively close to Cincinnati that many people dont talk a whole lot about. They are OUTSTANDING football programs.

There are over 750 teams in Ohio. Out of those teams, there are going to be some very good ones. There are about 230 teams in KY. (I dont know the exact numbers). Ohio is a pretty big state and the population is more than KY. Is the football better? GCL schools win over KY schools because the GCL schools are carrying 800-1500 students. For every good player a KY team has, a GCL team 2-3 good ones just like him.

Maybe the decision was made during last week's practices to start wehry, since wehry took all the snaps vs. RB. All good points above, and all the QBs have different talents, but the team seemed to be "lead" down the field on Friday - something that did not occur against the Ryle football team. This position should have been won a long time ago, not on Friday. It looks like it was time to move on and let the offense know who their man was.

Roger Bacon was a good opponent, lost to Elder 14-7 in last weeks scrimmage. The offense appeared to run even better after Buckley was out. A few more completions and it would have been 40-0.
