  1. I attended the scrimmage and was very impressed with BOTH teams. Dixie is ENORMOUS! If they can stay in shape, they will have a nice year. With that said, they should beat NCC in this scrimmage and they did, but I think NCC was the more "polished" team. They will be very good and make a run and give Beechwood and CCH a run for their money. Another state title? Dixie seemed to have some highs and lows. On one drive, they would look perfect, and the next drive would result in a botched snap, an errant pass and some poor execution. If they can avoid making mistakes and get ahead early against some teams like highlands and cch, they will be ok.
  2. It is a bigger problem than you think.
  3. Staff is serious (could lead to death if not treated). In Ohio, if infected with staff, you cannot play until you are treated and I believe antibiotics must be in your system for 24 hours prior to gametime. If a coach or trainer knows that you have staff and plays you, he (they) are liable. I believe that there is another form of staff (mersa?) that cannot be treated by antibiotics. Staff outbreaks must be treated seriously. It would be wise to clean out the lockerroom and clean the area with bleach or something. Many kids these days do NOT shower routinely after weights and practice. Modesty should not infringe on your health. Go in there with your swimsuit or boxers - but shower after a workout or practice.
  4. Both teams are extremely GOOD. If you are going to beat Highlands, you better be quicker than them, which may be difficult to accomplish. If you are planning to beat Beechwood, you better get up early and wear them out. I thought they were NOT in shape up front. I believe 7-8 kids were going both ways. If Beechwood just lines up in that double tight I formation, NO TEAM in Class A will match up. They will roll thru Class A and give CCH and Dixie a run for their money. All in all, two great teams with 2 great staffs going at it and it will be an exciting year for both of them.
  5. My thread was NOT to bash Dixie or their Coach. In fact, my comment was that Coach Spritsky might be smarter than most coaches for not having doubles (and it was not sarcastic). I have argued that Heat and the amount of time schools have on the field may possibley influence coaches to think twice about doubles.
  6. Does "more practices" provide an opportunity for more success? I dont know the answer to that. I cant state whether Dixie doing or not doing doubles is why they are or are not successful. Players, talent, tradition and support (or lack thereof) are all the ingredients for success - not just the time you put in. But then again, you could be right. I have not followed them all that closely. Compare that to does "more conditioning" during season provide an opportunity to be in better shape? I really dont know the answer to that one either. Maybe that is another discussion topic. Some coaches will run their kids daily and sometimes those legs are so burned out that they cannot compete at their highest levels on game day. There are folks that say that conditioning is counter productive. If you are practicing hard for two hours, do you really need the conditioning at the end. Many sports trainers will agree to that.
  7. EXCELLENT POINT. Let's not forget every football trainer is also in charge of soccer and any other fall program going on, too.
  8. Agreed. Commaradary can be gained all year long in the weight room, or on a canoe trip, or in the classroom. Is being "carried" or "carrying" someone off the field a good thing? Football is not war.
  9. I think some coaches "do unto others" as "they were done unto". In another words, putting kids thru doubles just because you went thru doubles. To run and work a kid so hard that he is praying to the Good Lord should not be the intent of any coach. As far as Ky goes, I will believe that you are right - about keeping up with other states. Ohio is probably just behind the times. I am not trying to argue against - just striking up some good conversation. I loved double sessions in high school and those days are some of the fondest of my life. I just think that there needs to be a good balance between doing them and overdoing them! Many of the local schools around here play on that turf and that adds a few degrees to the temperature. And when your on that turf, you are on the game field which probably means there arent too many shade trees around. Hopefully the coaches are giving the kids TONS of water.
  10. You got me confused on this one. I dont know high school BB - but I imagine it is 48 out of the 52 weeks of a year (in season, off season, summer, select, etc). College football - kids probably begin around mid August with the first game in early September. December off. Jan - May with the team in the weight room (spring ball for the D1's). Summer - they are responsible for their own.
  11. I would like to compare the KY high school practice schedule to that of a college football program. Any college players out there? What is your schedule like???
  12. In OHIO, you get 7 days (Helmets, no other pads) to do football instruction during the summer. Then doubles begin in August (and the first three days are non contact days). Counting two-a-days, if you scrimmaged this week vs an Ohio opponent, the Ohio team had 7 days in summer and 8 two a days (16 practices), totalling 23 practices - 13 with no contact. (Their first day was last Thursday). The KY team would have 10 spring sessions, about 15 June sessions, about 15July sessions and about 20 August practices, totalling around 60 practice sessions - and plenty of them with contact. I guess my point is not that it is so hot - but is there a point where too much practice opportunity is just too much?
  13. With all the heat this year (and in past years) and the amount of time that KY has to practice in the summer and spring, will teams eventually get away from 2-a-days? Many have bashed Dixie for not practicing 2x a day but just maybe.... he is the smartest coach out there. If teams take advantage of spring football and all the opportunies available in summer, why are they necessary? In addition, health and safety are issues for all football programs. I would think that many kids are sick and tired of football practice and ready to suit up. I would think it might be challenging for coaches to keep the motivation level up for these kids. When I played, there were no passing leagues and summer was for lifting and running and the first play wasnt put in until August 1. Now, most teams have the offense & defense in by August 1. Any thoughts.
  14. I believe the superintendent from Boone County was down in Frankfort at a conference and heard the rumor from the governor. He immediately called the coaches at Conner and Boone and got them off the field.
  15. Why would EKU or WKU give up all that money and possibly lose to Georgetown or maybe even have them play a close game. On paper, EKU or WKU should beat the tar out of them, but I dont imagine that happening. If they suffered a loss, that would be a huge setback in the recruiting war. Georgetown's JV use to play UK's JV team and play very competitively. Do they still play? Maybe the thread title needs to change.
  16. I agree that Moeller may lose that "environment". In my opinion, the idea sounds neat, but fans driving down to UC in the Clifton area on a Friday night does not sound like the greatest idea. I dont know if i would want to pack my team into a bus and go thru that every other week. What other options? Could they work out something with Indian Hill ? That is a great environment with turf and plenty of parking.
  17. Who else interviewed?
  18. They would not beat Highlands, Homes, Beechwood, NCC, and a few others. They are successful vs other CPS schools! - and that is about that.
  19. MVC??? Summit Country Day? CHCA? You mean GMC? Not saying these are great jobs - just saying that coaches have had success. Doubt anyone will stay at these schools long unless they are alumni.
  20. Winning 7 games is not that bad of a year - when your speaking about those programs. I think Holmes would be happy if they won 7. Mike Martin took the Taft Program from basically nothing and now they are competitive. I remember reading articles about how he was rebuilding that program. Withrow has had a some good years (winning 9-10 games a couple yrs ago) and is a top program in Cincinnati. I didnt say they were great jobs - just examples of some success.
  21. Withrow used to be a bad job. Taft used to be a bad job. Finneytown used to be a bad job. All three struggle with similar issues as Holmes. Holmes is not the worse job - but the state coming in is a problem.
  22. It will be difficult task.
  23. Very difficult schedule...... winning 9 or 10 games could land them a top 25 spot in the Country!!
  24. There is no substitute to doing what makes the program better.
  25. AGREED! CONFIDENCE IS EVERYTHING. The teams that are at the top year in and year out do NOT always have the best players........... but the do KNOW THAT THEY ARE GOING TO WIN !! And this cant always be coached up.
