  1. You same people that bash the BC offense for not running the football are going to be the first people to COMPLAIN when they start throwing and do NOT go into the playoffs. Or when they "play action" on 3rd and 1 and fail to convert or throw an interception, you will be saying, "why didnt they run the football?" Let's say they go to the spread. Many teams struggle inside the redzone because the field shrinks. If they are going to continue to run the football, a better solution would be for the OL to commit more time to the weight room. Each year, many state championships are won by teams that RUN the football mainly - but their biggest advantage is their physical OL. Another thing to concentrate on would be to play better defense and commit to special teams. HS teams DO NOT spend enough time on special teams and games can be won by this part of the game. In addition, field position can be gained or lost with proper execution of special teams. With a team that wants to grind out the clock and run the football, better special teams would help their cause.
  2. any news? are they conducting interviews this week?
  3. First of all, he needs to be careful. It's great that he wants to do EXTRA stuff at the end but maybe coach has a workout scripted and that is ALL that he needs to do. If he was in a leg press machine (which it sounds like he was), he obviously strained himself and exhausted himself. Many kids will do the leg press over the squat because they can stack on tons of weight. I would tell your son to do the lifts that coach has planned and NOTHING else. Being a sophomore and new to weights (especially heavy lifting) is not something to take lightly. His body needs to be slowly accustomed to weight training. He also needs to practice his breathing techniques during the lifting.
  4. I have not read his article. Did he discuss grades. It cracks me up how all these parents can pay all this money for camps and AAU basketball and they wont dish out any money for a tutor for their kid, or they wont emphasize the academics. Many of these outstanding kids who go to the camps and play in these basketball leagues will be lucky to make it out of high school. I see it everyday. That is why Cincinnati Harmony is becoming the most popular place to go after HS in this area It is not that difficult to make As and Bs in high school these days. Show up, be polite, act like u care, and you will probably earn at least a C. Alot of kids who dont get scholarships to D1 schools may not have the grades to get into a D3 school because the smaller schools have tougher criteria to get in. As far as playing one sport, I think a kid has to do what he chooses to do with no parent or coach pressure. If he LOVES three sports, then he should play three sports. If he LOVES one sport, then he should focus on one. If I was a Basketball coach, i would want my players to play football. MOST BB coaches do NOT empahasize the weight room (what a shame) and the FB coaches will make their BB stronger in their programs and they will be more physical on the court because of playing on the field. BB coaches think the weightroom is going to mess up their jump shot and baseball coaches think the weightroom is going to mess up their curve ball. what a SHAME. College BB and baseball players lift weights, believe it or not. other sports will make football players better football players. for example, wrestling will emphasize mental and physical toughness and BB will make a football player more athletic. I think the bottom line is this: If you expect to get a scholarship, you better just have the God Given abilities and characteristics. Second, you better have some GRADES!
  5. David Hoffman of Highlands was a pretty good offensive lineman from Highlands. i think he was a 86 grad. He went to University of Indianapolis and had a nice career there. Matt Hoffman was a good corner who won the national championship at Georgetown. He started for that team and deserves recognition.
  6. I agree that Swope was a monster of a player. Keifer was also a very good football player.
  7. 1. Solidify the freshman program with a quality coach. Who is the freshman coach this upcoming year? They have always had a great freshman program that feeds the varsity. Didnt they have a coach resign midway during the season. 2. I agree about the homefield advantage in the playoffs. Traveling hurts and there is nowhere else better to play than at Edgar McNabb.
  8. My guesses for the applicants are....... 1. Weinrich from highlands 2. roy lucas from lloyd? 3. barry jones - have heard that name on this board. 4. ? 5. ?
  9. so WHO is the sheriff? I think everyone understands all the "processes". What schools fail to realize is that the head football coach of a high school may be the most prominent figure in the school district - whether they like it or not, it is true. They impact 50-100 student athletes along with their families and the rest of the football community. Regardless of the school, the hiring of a head football coach is just as important as the hiring of a principal. Just my opinion.
  10. I dont think the thread is ugly. We just have to get the info out and do it in GOOD taste. So who is the sherriff - an assistant already there???? I have not seen a conner football game in a long time, but i would think this could be a GREAT opportunity. The numbers seem to be there and the area is growing in population as we speak. Maybe a NEW personality with a NEW attitude could take this program to a higher level of compeitition. Boone has had a tradition of success and Ryle had a great year in 06. Surely, with the right leadership Conner could get it done.
  11. It sounds like jdg937 is one of the unpaid coaches. Most schools arent going to hire someone "right away". Look at the mason and colerain (prominent jobs on the other side of the river) - they are still in the process. I am sure the school is looking over candidates and determining what type of teaching job will be available for the next coach. so the question is still out there....... is this an attractive job?
  12. 1. without skill or aptitude for a particular task or assignment; maladroit: He is inept at mechanical tasks. She is inept at dealing with people. 2. generally awkward or clumsy; haplessly incompetent. 3. inappropriate; unsuitable; out of place. 4. absurd or foolish: an inept remark. .. can you elaborate. Is the entire schoo district clumsy and foolish? or the athletes there? or the coach?
  13. What is up with this job? Seems they are dragging their feet. Is this a good job? Why did Stellman leave?
