1. Develop offensive balance between the run and pass. If you have to use Farris as a receiver to do that so be it.

2. Better secondary play next year. If that means using some players bith ways so be it.

3. The field surface hasn't held up well in recent years but that could be a huge home field advantage in the playoffs if they can get home games.

The qb can throw. They need to let him throw.

Farris is outstanding.

This has been the case for Boone for about 15 years...

Many would argue it has been the case for even longer....I happen to disagree.

I agree. He throws a nice ball. However, he just didn't have anyone to throw it to last year. They need a couple receivers to step up. As for the secondary, I wouldn't be surprised to see Bogle and Farris back there all year next year.

My bad for not being more specific. On the run/pass balance. Many would argue this has been a problem for even more than 15 years and has kept the program from becoming elite. I disagree. It's not a very popular opinion, but the right one.

The Woody Hayes philosophy has won the Rebels many games and they do it very well.

However, there comes a time during any season when diversification is required. IMO that's been the downfall of Boone County football and has kept them from getting over the hump.

Farris will be a top running back in the state this year. That should help. If you can run the ball and stop the run, you should be able to compete.

I think if they just line-up in shotgun spread with Bogle and Farris side by side. Then run traps, dives and option and throw enough to keep people honest would be effective. Because sometimes the threat of the pass is as good as a pass.

A clinic given a season or 2 ago by Kerry Combs, Colerain's former coach.

He broke down defending the spread into 2 categories, teams who spread to run and teams who spread to pass. He used 3 college examples(because everyone could relate to those teams) Northwestern and West Virginia for the running style and Purdue for the passing style. I think Boone could more easily adapt to the running style. Either one spreads the defense out and gets 8 or 9 players out of the box and puts Bogle or Farris in more open field situations.

But having said that they are still Boone County. Everyone knows they will still probably do the samething they have done since Hauck started coaching at Boone run right at the defense repeatedly.

I think it's the same old song and dance for BC, unless they get a consistent passing game they can expect to challenge for district titles but once round three comes around they better be able to keep defenses honest, if history is any indication they will still be run, run, run.

I submit that if the Rebels had "diversified" with some of their best teams, there wouldn't be a hump to get over because they'd have lost earlier.

Maybe. However, once you see that a one-dimensional offense cannot win the big games, wouldn't simple logic tell you to diversify a bit? At least enough to keep the other defense honest?

What's the definition of "insanity?"

"insanity" beating your head against the wall repeatedly with no benefit??

Or running it repeatedly at a defense who keeps stopping you??
