Maybe. However, once you see that a one-dimensional offense cannot win the big games, wouldn't simple logic tell you to diversify a bit? At least enough to keep the other defense honest?

If you know that your traditional way only gets you so far and yet you don't change, what are you, the coach, really saying? Playoffs are good enough? I'm an old dog and I can't learn new tricks? I'm satisfied?

Becoming diversified means that Boone will have to commit to passing the ball early in the season, even when it fails. They haven't shown a willingness to do that. Every year we hear about the discovery of the forward pass in Florence, and every year it gets scrapped once it shows that it is not working right away. While that allows Boone to win games by not turning the ball over or stalling drives, they miss out in the long run. I mean, the alarms should have been going off after they went through the Alexander era without a state championship. Those teams were stacked, the only thing that held them back was coaching, and I respect Coach Hauck to death.

An effective passing game allows a running game to be MORE effective!!!!!!!

 

To say that the ability to pass, would cause a team to LOSE a game is false.

Bringing up the Alexander era is excellent. Boone definetly had good enough talent to win at least one state title while Shawn was at Boone but they never learned that "pigskin" can fly. I witnessed the state final when Shawn was a Sr. It wasn't that the other team was better it was they put 10 men in the box and dared Boone to throw, which they did not.

 

If Boone would have had some short in the flat passes to Alexander or whoever they probably would have won his Sr. yr, IMO. He was the best running back in the state but not against 10 men on the line of scrimmage and the best middle linebacker in the state coming at you.

If Hauck decides to balance the offense, they probably don't make the playoffs some of those seasons and certainly lose earlier in the seasons they get to the postseason.

Trinity was pretty good in 94, they usually are. Boone may have lost this game because of a problem passing, but they'd have never played in it without Alexander and Hauck. This wasn't one of the best Boone teams, it was good, but limited.

And there's the problem, nobody knows. How do you know if they didn't have any receivers? They never made a concerted effort to make it work. In your next post you say that that Boone team wasn't that great??? They were stacked, I mean stacked. The game changes, and you have to change with it or you are left behind.

You same people that bash the BC offense for not running the football are going to be the first people to COMPLAIN when they start throwing and do NOT go into the playoffs. Or when they "play action" on 3rd and 1 and fail to convert or throw an interception, you will be saying, "why didnt they run the football?"

 

Let's say they go to the spread. Many teams struggle inside the redzone because the field shrinks.

 

If they are going to continue to run the football, a better solution would be for the OL to commit more time to the weight room.

 

Each year, many state championships are won by teams that RUN the football mainly - but their biggest advantage is their physical OL.

 

Another thing to concentrate on would be to play better defense and commit to special teams. HS teams DO NOT spend enough time on special teams and games can be won by this part of the game. In addition, field position can be gained or lost with proper execution of special teams. With a team that wants to grind out the clock and run the football, better special teams would help their cause.

As a coach, the WORST thing you can do is sit down and watch Florida beat the crap out of OSU and say, "we can run that offense - let's give Urban Meyer a call!" As a coach, you MUST coach what you believe in! Boone Co has their personality and i dont see it changing. trust me, when they line in the spread and start chucking it, you will miss your rushing game.

Coaches who don't change with the times soon find themselves behind the times. You do not have to abandon a tough mentality and a tough running game to effectively throw the football. An I offense can produce an excellent passing game. The key is, power I and two tight wing bring too many people in the box. You can't score against a good defense with this philosophy. You must flat out be more physical than your opponent to run the ball against nine in the box, which is what you invite with these formations.

Use your head and open your eyes. Do you think that your line is ever going to work harder than the lines from T and X. No. You will never beat those teams by running the ball against nine. A coaching staff that maximizes wins by adjusting to player talent and opponents weakness will go much further than someone who lives off of well, we will beat them if we are more physical than they are. That has never won AAAA football. The best running back to ever play in this state didn't win under that system. Until this mentality is changed, Boone football will continue to be stagnent. BTW, I don't speak from a spectator point of view. I have seen Trinity coaches be willing to change time and again. I guess that is one of the reasons they have won 5 of the last six.

I'm not a Boone fan. I'm a NewCath fan, a program by the way that shows that you can change with the times. I'm not saying that Boone needs to run the spread option. I'm saying that Boone needs to get to a 30/70 mix.

I'm not talking about passing like LexCath does . I'm simply saying that you have to make the D OCCASIONALLY worry about the ball being thrown. Are you trying to tell me that BC didn't have one kid in each grade or two that could put the ball in the air with some success? Ain't buying it.
