Lots of stories like this in the early to mid 70's for sure. The playoffs were too exclusive back then. IMO, Ky. got it right when they went to 4 classes and two teams from each district made it. 6 classes now, and 2 per district I think would be a good number. Ohio had similar things happen with the harbin ratings. Undefeated teams missed the playoffs. Ohio allowed only the top 2 in each region in the playoffs for the longest time, upped it to 4, and even then left 9-1 teams out. I think with multiple classes, there should be a fair measuring stick for making the postseason (top 2 in a district) But for perspective sake, think about this there was a few years back in the 70's that NKY class 3A looked something like this: Highlands, CovCath, Newport, Newport Catholic, Lloyd, Conner, and only 1 team made the playoffs. Years would have been 75ish to 80ish. Dixie and Holmes may have bounced into that mix a few times as well.

Shortage nationally, and in virtually every sport. Major shortage in some parts of Ky. in some sports. Shortage should have little to do with money, as the pay is awfully good for a second income. But, the work isn't easy either. As with any shortage in a profession, that means there is a opportunity to move up quickly.

Inevitable, but still a shame. Reading between the lines, the season was more or less cancelled when UK closed their facilities through June several weeks ago and the KHSAA didn't start shopping for a alternative state site for track or tennis.

Just my two cents, but I think some supers in Ohio are looking at splitting their schools in half, and one blue days, the blue students are in the building and the White students are doing NTI. On White days, it gets flipped. On each 10 day cycle, all kids are in 5 days and in NTI 5 days. Keeps the school at 50 percent enrollment and allows for social distancing as classrooms would only be half full. That's what I think they are talking about. Under that plan, no sports in the Fall.

When we start playing games we are going to be bringing kids from different places together, Beechwood v Corbin as a for instance. That opens up potential issues. And if you play high school games, you are going to have clusters of people. IMO it would be impossible to play HS games with no crowds.

Believe me fellas, I very badly want to be wrong on this one as well. But I tend to think JA may be correct.

Thanks everyone, and thanks CWB for creating a thread. As already mentioned, the ESPN documentary was of the 01-02. KET doc seems like it could have been 98-99 season. In all honesty, I'm surprised both are so hard to find, but it appears they are.

Well....umm..that's a VERY good team right there. Well done. That team wins a lot of college games. I'd probably replace Weyer with that Drew kid he played with at NCC.

zero chance that this would ever be given one second thought for many of the reasons listed by others, and many not listed. There are a ton of reasons not to do it, and No reason to even think about it. If you want to start a good debate though, propose moving soccer to to the Spring and baseball and softball to the Fall.

Yep. During one of his pressers during the girls Sweet 16, Julian was asked about Spring sports and maybe baseball specifically. He said they had been consistent about this all along, and until the start of the state tournament it would be a local decision.

The KHSAA stand on Spring sports is going to be no stand. This is a local decision up until the time district tournament play starts.

This. It was a bad idea to begin with that has run its course. Let's get to the biggest games of the year and bring in strangers who are going to call the game differently than it has been called most of the kids careers? Solid thinking there

Terrible idea. It's not going to change attendance, as noted by a couple of you. NCAA tourny and Sweet 16 shared dates forever with no issue, now there is one? Cmon, man. For the kids that play, still playing in March is awesome. It's basketball's month and the whole state is all basketball. For the All 'A' schools this will make most of the season feel longer than the NBA playoffs. The good 'A' teams will just come off a regional tournament and possibly a state run, and then almost start right back over with districts. For fans, I think most feel much more like driving an hour or so to go watch a few games in March than in Feb. Parking and walking to Rupp, much more pleasant (most of the time) in March than Feb. Nothing better than wearing shorts and walking in to Rupp to watch some HS basketball after listening to Marty call a Spring Training game on the trip down. If we're a basketball state and we stay one class because of tradition, then keep the traditions....

Are we sure on this? The BGP preview has Newport ranked number 15 in the Ninth Region. The NKY Tribune does not have them listed in the top 10 and I don't think they were in the top 10 in the Cats Pause preview either. Maybe Newport is good enough to be battling for the 2 spot in the Ninth, but the previews aren't showing it.

Interesting idea. It'll obviously never happen and has its holes. But interesting nonetheless... Bottom line, as long as the KHSAA makes money by opening the gates for 6 state championship games, they aren't going to trim that number (and lessen their revenue.) Like I said, bottom line. Figuratively and literally. Question for someone who may know how to find this info. How many football playing schools did Ky. have the last year of the 3 class system, and how many the last year of the 4 class system? How many are there now?

Is McCracken a 6A school, and Mayfield a 2A?

Does the class/division of the opponent matter in the RPI?
