  1. I appreciate the response, but I'll have to ask again: How many final fours does Texas have in its history? Naming the years would be great. What is the size of their home court arena? What's the average attendance? How old is the arena? The NCAA tournament has been around for a long time. I don't remember Texas being much of a factor most of the time.
  2. I'm a little surprised by this move. I didn't read a story on it, but read on bottomline, it was mutual decision??? Seems odd. I thought Lavin did okay in his time at St. John's. They made the tournament this year. The program was in pretty bad shape when he took over. Maybe I'm missing something.
  3. Was a difference maker. Utah with a lot of turnovers and even when they weren't turning the ball over they were running half court offense from 40 feet a lot of the game. Hard to win when you have to do that.
  4. Who's the world beater Kentucky had to play to get to the round of 8? And now they get a Notre Dame team that was lucky to beat Butler. Heck, Xavier beat Butler.
  5. Not to threadjack a thread about next year's starters. But, as long as we're talking history, Walter is mostly correct in his comprehensive list. But, a few of the names are misplaced. Dixie started a huge lineup, but only one Bramlage (6'3) was still at Dixie in 03. Kinney turned into a really good player at Lloyd, but the younger Hopkins and Hollenkamp were their best players in 03. They weren't very good. SK also had Reed who was about 6'6 and could play. Otte and Vieth were both about 6'5 as well as Shimdt (sp). Very big team. Ryle had a 6'4 kid to go with Doellman, name escapes me. Guidugli (Gino) had graduated from Highlands before 03. A younger Guidugli came off the bench for HHS in 03. St. Henry, Highlands, and I think both Dixie and Simon Kenton were ranked in the top 10 statewide for at least part of the season. St. Henry, Dixie, and Highlands may have all been in the last AP top 10 poll. Lye was a very good player, but he was class of 02. Scott was really good in 02. They were pretty bad in 03.
  6. I guess I missed the quote. Pulled up the link and got a poorly written article about the Simpson's and Springfield, Ky.??
  7. Back to the topic. Great gesture on his part. That's a really neat thing to do.
  8. Based on history, I'm pretty sure CBS will have maybe the D-II national title game on in mid-afternoon Saturday (2ish start), followed by some pre-game and then the Saturday regional finals. Start time likely 5:30ish and 8ish. Maybe 6 and 8:30. Wireman nailed the Sunday times. The last game will start just after 5, as CBS traditionally doesn't want to mess with their Sunday night lineup.
  9. On just the bolded, what makes it such a jaw dropping job? Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good job (and potentially the best football job in the country). But, I'm not seeing it in basketball. What's their arena hold? What do they average (attendance) for home games? I'm assuming arena is on-campus, but I don't know. How are the practice facilities (I"m assuming their practice/workout facilities are off the chart, but I don't know). How many final fours has Texas been to in their history? If anyone can list the years, that'd be awesome. If it's such a great job, why so few final fours?
  10. Your first quote kind of seems to answer your second quote. Personally, I totally agree with the second quote, and have a question on the first quote in my next post.
  11. How's Sean Miller higher on any coaching list than Marshall? A final four, an undefeated regular and conference tournament season, and now in the Sweet 16 in the last three years. Seems to me he's done more with less (resources) than Miller.
  12. Good thread in that there's some good information on openings, and it's interesting reading everyone's take on jobs and candidates. That said, pardon the fact that I'm going to post consecutively here to get caught up.
  13. Remember catching the Eagles on the Hell Freezes Over tour and thinking this is probably the last chance to see them live. Who'd of thought that 20 years later......
  14. Maybe a stupid question, but who's fronting them these days?
  15. Zero clue on the city or the BBQ. Any info?
  16. A few thoughts: I get the supply and demand argument as well as the capitalism side of things. Quick question, if every diaper company tripled their price tomorrow, would anyone have a problem with that? Maybe they even slow down production to lessen the available supply to the consumer. Easy answer is no, because someone would fill that need for affordable diapers very quickly. Pampers would love to charge $5 a diaper, but they can't because they'd be priced out of of business. Oil is a different animal. Can't apply the same set of rules.
  17. Oil companies need an incentive to produce gas? I didn't realize it was our job as consumers to pay above marked values to give them "incentive."
  18. I had no clue about this. Thanks for the heads up.
  19. Spent a little time at ETSU once. Very nice campus. Decent facilities, nice enough game day arena for a mid-major. I understood at the time, they draw well. Decent media coverage (certainly better than NKU will ever get) with the tri-cities area. And, I'd guess a decent (although congested) recruiting niche. Hope Brannen gets it, if his name is in the hat.
  20. Not a fan. I don't necessarily dislike the whole premise of remakes, but I think they need to be chosen wisely. I'm not sure this one sounds as if it was. I'd rather them re-release the last Scarface. I'd certainly consider going to see it again in a theater much more so than I'll consider seeing this remake. Unless, of course it proves me wrong and gets great reviews. Lastly, not a fan of Hollywood reminding I'm getting old by remaking another movie that I'm old enough to remember being a big deal the last time around. :stop:
  21. In a nutshell, and I may leave something out, or may misinterpret something, but in a nutshell the redbook rules basically: Says that all money raised by a school or program must be spent on students. So coaches no longer get free tickets, rooms, or meal money for the Sweet 16, that was once provided by many public schools as part of a coaching contract. Basically, schools used to foot the bill for their staffs at the tournament. That can't happen any longer. Redbook rules go as far as excluding coaching shirts from being purchased with raised dollars.
  22. On the game: Someone had to win. UC did less to lose down the stretch than Purdue. Ellis deserved the ejection. UC overcame that and won the game.
  23. On the first bolded, I like to know who "people," are. Who needs a trip to the dictionary? UK was upset by Villanova in the 1988 NCAA tournament. I was most disappointed in UK with the end of the Sutton era and the ramifications that followed. On the second bolded, your odds are against the field, not an opponent. What's UK's chance versus the next best? Every game UK plays the rest of the way, they will be favored by a lot. So in that one game scenario it will be a major upset.
  24. I'm not sure exactly what part of my post you are referring to? In terms of sports, an upset is something that happens when an underdog beats the favored team. If UK loses it will be a big upset.
