  1. So this is essentially due to the same leg/knee injury that has seemingly plagued him forever? Correct? If that's the case, this is more than much ado about nothing. The guy has been a shell of himself and missed a ton of games since his original knee injury years ago. Votto being hurt went from being a trend to being normal last season. No panic from me, as I don't have enough invested to care that much. But, as a Reds follower, this is hardly news I just wash my hands of.
  2. Not sure if this is a big deal, or even worth a sigh. Game one of Spring training could be no biggie, or could be a sign of things to come. My question is what's the injury? When did the injury occur? Is this the same leg/knee injury that has been bothering him for going on either 10 months or what two years now?
  3. I was going to post the bolded info myself, but you were on top of things. Nothing more to add on this one. Nothing to see here.
  4. However you decided upon bitter is on you, couldn't be further from the truth. Why would anyone be bitter about a kid playing well, getting a D-I chance, and doing well with it? You read too much.
  5. Another thread in this forum got me to thinking about what cities outside of the US I would like to visit. My list was very short. I've been to Toronto, I'd like to see Vancouver. Maybe Paris, maybe London. After that, it gets dicey for me. Australia has a couple cities that look very nice and clean, but no way I'm flying that long. After that, most cities around the world do nothing for me but look overcrowded, dirty, and unsafe. Did I mention dirty? So where have you been, or where would you like to go? Am I wrong in my assumption? Share your stories or thoughts.
  6. to the original premise of the thread, JS hit the nail on the head in one word. Corruption. Only reason in the world overgrown slums like Rio get the Olympics in the first place. Scary to think how many people worldwide live like this, or worse. IOC has at least shed some light on that (unintentionally of course) with some of their recent choices as hosts. I'd say all Olympic games should be held in the US, Canada, or Western Europe. But, that would sound like a blow-hard WASP, coming across as a snob. Plus, a documentary I just saw on the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics, pointed out that the athletes were housed in a prison (literally). That's cozy.
  7. The bolded, along with allowing only 58 points, actually points toward a solid defensive night. If you turn the ball over 20 times, you are going to give up some fast-break points. X is bad defensively, I'm just not sure this game is such a good example of that. I have no idea what St. John's averages per contest on the year or in conference play. those numbers could put this in better perspective, possibly.
  8. The bolded is probably true, but only because he was the most unsung, underrated, and frankly underutilized player in the region last year.
  9. At first blush, I thought the pricing was preposterous. But, when you look at the entire package it isn't gawd awful. If you are interested enough in all the events to actually make use of them, it comes out to give or take $100 per event depending on your seat, Myself, no idea what the fan-fest entails, but I'd likely be interested. No interest at all in Sunday's events. If I had a ticket I'd attend Monday's event, and the all-star game is a neat deal. So the pricing doesn't seem quite so bad. Until you realize, it is an exhibition game. That park makes me cringe all over again at those prices. But, to each his own.
  10. Interesting. I've heard people rave about their hoagies, but never really ever hard ringing endorsements of their pizza. Maybe I'm talking to the wrong people. Any second opinions?
  11. Final score was 58-57. D at least allowed a low number of points. By your reasoning the offense should have been enough to win this one.
  12. Huge rivalry game in a first round district matchup. That place will be rocking Wednesday night. Does Hazard still have the former PCC coach, and does PCC still have the coach from Graves County?
  13. Nicely done. Hardly seems like the same guy to give "das boot,"
  14. Not to thread jack, but that is a blast from the past. Remind me, where were the (if any) Dinner Bell's in NKY. I still remember their jingle. Any Bill Knapp's fans out there? Back to the thread, Mary Queen of Heaven has about the best in the area. Dixie High School has had one the last couple of years, but I haven't checked it out yet.
  15. Great thread. Unfortunately, I have to balk at some of LB13's list. Pretty sure some of that list was actually 1985. Autograph was the performer at Kings Island's senior night that year, and since "Turn Up the Radio," was their only hit, I'm thinking it had to be a spring of 85 song. Stong list though, LB. Also, before making my list, I'd like an exemption as i prefer to think of the songs of your senior year as the 12 month period between June of the end of your junior year, and the following June of graduation.
  16. Nice thread. :thumb: Nice responses as well. Gotta go with the bad guy from No Country for Old Men, and Lector (sp) from those mentioned thus far. To add a few: Movies such as "The Hitcher," "Rear View Mirror," and "Law Abiding Citizen," had some pretty deranged bad guys. Nic Cage's bad guy in "Face Off," was pretty nasty as well.
  17. Great thread idea and long overdue. I once tried to correct some members basic grammar, didn't work out too well. Seems there is a rule against that, but also a rule not allowing poor grammar. I guess if you have one, why would you need the other? Anyway, good thread. Hoping SG41017 was just messing around, and doesn't really think a thread like this couldn't be helpful. Keep in mind, we all make mistakes. But, some shouldn't be made by adults. "I seen" saw was a verb before a movie title, you may use it. My favorite sentence ever may have been when someone told me, "I seen, 'Saw,' yesterday." loose v lose. I was wanting v I want. Just a few to chew on, and again, great thread. If it works out, I'll buy ya a couple of Eagles tickets on their next tour.
  18. No, no, no. TAC won't be on the maiden voyage. He'll wait until everyone else gets there and gets things in order, then he'll slide in to the VIP area like he's been there all along. :lol2:
  19. I didn't see the interview, and I will go on record that I am both a Kobe fan and a Lakers fan. I have been forever. But, I will say Kobe isn't my favorite Laker or even in my top three. That said, maybe someone can shed light on this for me. ESPN "bottom lined," that Kobe said in an interview (I assume this one) that he stayed in LA to win titles with Shaq. Found this very odd, as he won titles after Shaq, and as near as I remember he was the reason Shaq left LA after the first titles. What am I missing, or was the "bottom line" stuff deceiving?
  20. I didn't realize he was still in the league and didn't realize he was only 28. Seven year career in the NFL, vested in the league's pension program. Guessing Rivers will move on to other things based on his 2014 stats.
  21. Learned to drive on a stick and have driven one forever. Traffic doesn't bother me. Start on stop on hills, no worries. I've been caught in major jams in the smokies on the way uphill, just another drive. I have always thought that a manual forced me to pay a little more attention while driving. Great to contol the torque and "shifting down" to save on the brakes is fun. Myths it seems: Few new cars (non sport, truck models) are now "stick". Thus they aren't cheaper anymore. A dealer will want to make you pay for the "luxury" of having a stick, like picking a certain color. You don't save on mileage anymore. I'm as efficient with a clutch as anyone, but the automatic's are way more efficient than they used to be. Resale value of "stick" cars takes a hit. A decent portion of potential buyers can't even drive them. Dealers don't want them because who is looking to buy a used "stick". A clutch is cheaper to replace than a transmission, and a clutch can go for 100k or so. But, transmission's are built at a much better level now than ever before. Not sure this is a big deal anymore. just my thoughts from a guy that could land a washing machine if they put it in space (paraphrase from a decent movie).
  22. Caught this on the news, and I'm likely going to come across as being over the top on this. But, the guy should be charged with endangerment and other violations. He didn't kill someone only because there was no one in the line of his projectile. We are told that driving is a privilege, not a right. Yet see time and time again people who have outlived their ability to deserve that privilege do something like this. Guy should be charged. When you get behind the wheel, you should be held to the same accountability as everyone else on the road. You can't have a separate set of rules, when operating something that can harm or kill unsuspecting people. I've often wondered why taking the driving exam isn't part of the social security or medicare process. Once you are eligible and apply for such benefits, you must retake the test every five years. Pass or fail, you still get the benefits you are entitled to upon taking the test. But, then someone is monitoring their privilege to continue drive as capacities may be diminishing. Lastly, I find it ridiculous no one revoked the guys license on the spot. Absurd.
  23. LB, I too have seen this dude all over the place for the last several hoops seasons. And his M/O is exactly as you mentioned, always by himself and always either in the front row or in an end zone. I've seen him at Newport games mostly, but also at Lloyd, Holy Cross, and other venues you mentioned. Figured he was someone I should know, but don't. Honestly I thought he was Walter once, thought he was Panda as well. If you remember the Robin Williams movie "The best of Times," there was a mystery fan they would occasionally cut to during the flick. Never knew who he was until the end of the movie, and he turned out to be a legendary figure. Maybe that's this guy.
  24. To the first quoted, yes falling early is likely going to be an automatic block. Contact must be made to the torso area before a charge is called. Actually, flopping on a charge attempt can be called a technical against the offender. Seldom called, thus the automatic block call is usually made. Taking initial contact and "selling" the call is usually okay. Avoiding initial contact by falling too soon, shouldn't ever equal a charge call.
  25. Good thread. Got, uhmm, just a little bogged down, but good thread. Just a few thoughts while admitting that I think by and large refs at the varsity level and beyond typically call a good to great game. I don't see many travels/non travels being missed/mis-called. I don't see the block/charge call being called incorrectly very often. The call that is missed the most and it's not even close, is the 5-second call. For whatever reason, many refs just don't want to make this call on a dribbler. Many are slow to start a count, and will break the count prematurely. And a few nuggets that I noticed from today's games to remind us that the officials get it right more than a lot of people: Late in the Nebraska/Penn St. game, the Huskers are throwing the ball inbounds. Indbounder has trouble and looks in both directions, chopping his feet as he does so. Penn St. bench erupts (except for head coach) screaming and making the signal for a travel violation to be called. It was a side line out of bounds across from the benches so I had a great vantage point of the bench. I couldn't believe guys at that level didn't know this rule. Tonight during the UK/Florida game, Jay Bilas went over the top a couple of times. I think Bilas is a great commentator, great spokesman for the game, and provides mostly great insight. He's one of the best, if not the best. But, he went off on the charge call against Harrison late in the game. I get Bilas point that Harrison didn't generate enough force to send a player flopping like that, or whatever he said. Fact is, Harrison led with a lowered shoulder that clearly impacted the defender directly in the chest. This is called an offensive foul consistently and has been for years. Thought Bilas was a bit harsh on the officials on that call. A few minutes later, a Florida post player is called for a travel. Bilas rips the official and said there was not travel. Clearly there was, on the first shot fake, before a dribble was ever attempted. Reply clearly showed it. Bilas said something to the affect of "he was dribbling", while watching the replay. he was right, the travel occurred well before that. Bilas missed that part. Late whistle, correct call. The thing I like most about threads like this is they often become very informative, and as a result give everyone a chance to learn something new.
