  1. Crowds were in the mid 30's to the high 30's for the first two games. I expect another big crowd today for Father's Day. That said, nothing excites me about this team at all. I guess the chase to get to 82 wins is something. But the team is fundamentally handicapped on so many levels you have to blow it up at some point.
  2. Favorite sauces at Bdubs are Spicy Garlic and Caribbean Jerk. Great flavor to each. I can't eat boneless wings, they are horrible. So, always traditional. But at Bdubs I prefer the Naked (grilled) tenders with the above as dipping sauces. Best thing on their menu.
  3. I feel you pain. Deregulating cable TV was one of the dumbest moves Congress has made regarding the middle class in 30 years. It didn't create any real competition, only allows the company that basically owns your area to charge whatever they want and come up with as many add ons as they want with no one to answer to. From a gouging standpoint, what the cable companies do doesn't so much ring to me as unfair, it's more like sinister. Short answer to your question is I think the cable companies rig everything to make sure you have to use their equipment. I never had one, but didn't there used to be a box you could buy to record and pause live TV (TEVO). Is it still out there? Can you still record TV via a VCR or DVD recorder? Or have the cable companies made that impossible?
  4. Certainly not the best fit for NJIT, but they had to get re-aligned with a conference, any conference. I can't imagine trying to put together a schedule as an independent today, much less how much a school like NJIT would have to win as an independent to have a prayer of getting an NCAA bid. The program really made strides last season. I guess the school's recruiting base is solid with Jersey and NYC, Philly, etc. all in the neighborhood. Maybe you sell them on trips south in January and turn the long trips into a recruiting tool.
  5. Thread either just got more interesting or worse, depending on your perspective I suppose. I'll go with much ado about nothing and that we'll never actually see on here what the actual rumor is/was.
  6. Enlightening thread, and some absolutely excellent posts as well. Unfortunately, cases like this don't surprise me. Once charged with a crime, defendants often spend months and even years in jail awaiting trial. These are people presumed innocent by law, but still incarcerated either because they have no means to post bond or because no bond is set. It happens here in Kentucky, and with the population and backlog of cases in NYC, I can see how something like this happens. Not that I'm condoning any of it, mind you. Sitting in jail for six years awaiting trial absolutely slaps the right to a speedy trail right in the face. I can't imagine any circumstance that would make this okay.
  7. Let's see, it's in the boys basketball forum and he lives in NKY. Only open jobs in the vicinity would be Nicholas County and Trimble County. Not seeing either of those. Joining the Holy Cross staff? Taking over at Fairfield (Ohio)?
  8. Am I able to PM (honest question)? In any event, check your contacts. I sent you a response. Thanks.
  9. Grant was at NCC Weyer's freshman year, and he did play up that year on the JV. So I'd say Grant did coach and have relationship with Weyer that year. I have no idea if any of that means a thing when it comes to NKU's offer, or the recruiting process in general. But, I'll be John and Grant have had or will have a conversation about the kid sooner rather than later.
  10. Interesting possibility, I hadn't even thought about Kyle being at Newport. I highly doubt that his position would allow him to take the football job though, or if administrators are even allowed to coach in Newport. He's a proven coach with a great deal of knowledge and passion for the game. Hard to believe in never worked out for him to get a head coaching job in Boone County. With the timing of all this though, if ever there was a chance for this kind of double duty I would think it is this situation.
  11. Wow, had totally forgotten Children's Palace was ever a place. Toys R Us seemed to doom them. Service Merchandise likely deserved a better fate. I always liked the place, though the concept was different for its time.
  12. Man that was hard, I kept getting kicked back to the commercials and had to rewrite parts of my response as a result. Lots of good gets here on things that went away. Personally my list would include but may not be limited to: McAlpin's Swallens Zantigo's Rax (Blueberry shakes) Friendly's Chi-Chi's Media Play (I loved that place) Circuit City Mr. Gatti's Basken-Robins (I'm sure they are still around but I don't know where) Boston Market (none left in NKY) Record Alley (I still love the few record and book stores left.) On Zantigo's and Burger Queen, I see lots of love, but wonder where you were then. Both places seemed pretty empty about every time I ever went past the joints. Zantigo's could get a little busy at dinner, but the drive thru was always little to no wait. Burger Queen was awful, and awful empty nearly all the time. I thought the VanLuenen's (sp) and All About Sports concept was really good, and spent some bucks in both places.
  13. I get that. I also get that if you offer a non-premium membership, it should provide access to the site without constantly being returned to the same ad playing on a loop. The site is user driven (it wouldn't be here without the users). So to make it impossible for a user such as myself to be able to read through other posts in a thread that may interest me seems counter productive to the business model. Actually, it seems kind of amateurish. I never had a problem with paying for the site, and still don't necessarily. But if you going to offer a basic membership, then the site should be something more than a frustrating continual trip back to a running commercial for those users.
  14. Good advice. If I can figure out how to do that I certainly will. Thanks for the heads up. :thumb:
  15. Good thread, I remember several of these type places. Sadly, it's tough to post a response as I keep getting pulled back "to the top" by an ad running on a loop.
  16. Coaches will be there if the right players and or programs are there. At this point in the summer coaches aren't showing up just to look for new talent. They are following guys they are interested in and looking at guys from the top programs who they may be interested in. Best thing that can happen to teams in July is to get matched against a high profile player or program. If you go to the right events in July (events that typically draw some of the top programs from big AAU states) you will get "exposure" at some point . You are rolling the dice with events like the KBA event if you are looking for D-I or D-II exposure. May get it, but likely those coaches will be other places.
  17. I'm almost sure this is not a new thing. Seems to me Nike started this a couple years ago, and it's a great idea to keep all their teams on their circuit and ensure all of them have a chance at the "Peach Jam exposure".
  18. I concur with both you guys. We were talking about injuries having a major effect early in the playoffs, and the trend just continued. I've been watching the NBA a long time and never remember anything like this.
  19. Like CC, I haven't been yet, seems to be a really nice spot though. Kind of caught wind of it through the Enquirer's summer dining guide CC posted. Good get by both of you, unfortunately I think this place is about to get much more crowded.
  20. Zero chance I'm waiting in line for 45 minutes for chicken tenders. Of course, if you made a special a trip all the way to West Chester to get them, your kind of between a rock and a hard place. Must be crazy good chicken though, as I've heard nothing but good things about the place. As for Popeye's, last time I was in Indy there was one near the hotel. It was packed virtually all day long. Cars wrapped around the restaurant in the drive thru kind of packed. I've had it, and it's pretty good, but I was shocked the volume this place was doing.
  21. I'd say point taken, but I already knew that. I was born at night, but it wasn't last night...and all that type stuff. My thought process is fairly simple on this particular point. However it broke ( I have zero idea) it gained enough traction for ESPN to go to "breaking news" and put this guy on national TV. I caught part of what he said and he seemed pretty even-keeled and matter-of-fact about the whole scenario. Seemed credible enough to me, and I had no idea if the guy was an "internet writer" or the beat guy for the Times-Picayune. And to your quoted, you can't believe everything people tell you either. No matter how this went down, the Pelicans are going to "no comment" the heck out of everything now, and Cal isn't going to say anything other than "I love my job." As for believing, what you see or hear, here's my stance on Cal. If the guy walked into my living room soaking wet and said, "man it's pouring outside," the first thing I'd do is go look out the window. Is there a Cal to the Bulls thread yet? They have some SEC guys, plus his boy Rose. And, AD is from Chicago.
  22. You are correct on my first graph, was an "internet" guy covering the Pelicans. He did get some clock on ESPN, and seemed pretty sure of how the story went. The story did go away quickly, which may mean a lot of things, including AD is heading elsewhere when he can. May also mean ESPN turned a bunch of nothing into something for a minute. That has happened once or twice, I think. As for the rest of my original post, I think he could certainly leave for the right money at the right time. And, why would Cal ever tell anyone closely followed by UK fans that he may ever leave, until he actually leaves? I'm not a huge Cal fan, but not a hater at all. He's done a great job at UK, as he did at Memphis.
  23. FWIW, it was reported that Cal contacted the Pelicans, not the other way around. So there is that. Money became an issue right away, and both sides said, OK then. Cal makes a ton of money at UK, and it'll take at least that much for him to make the jump, but if someone is willing to pony up I could see it. As for what he said in the Cat's Pause, or anywhere else, what do you think he'd say?
  24. A couple quick questions. Who pitched for the Tigers? And, Beechwood has been highly regarded the past several years, what have their regional results been?
