The Lakota schools playing at Mason will be a madhouse. X and Colerain meeting again in the playoffs, imagine that. LaSalle and Harrison is an old fashioned type rivalry. LaSalle will roll though. Kings and Mt. Healthy is a BIG game. I'll take Kings, but this is could be a dandy. McNick and Massie should be a good one as well. Two really good teams fighting for the chance to play Alter next week.

If this doesn't prove we have too many classes in football I don't know what will.

On the first graph, no it wouldn't. Nothing funny about it. Eliminate one regular season game, elminate the bye, and there you go. Game 10 is everyone's playoff game. I'm pretty sure Indiana played week 3 of the playoffs as we entered week 1. It can be done. On second graph, if you want to compare football to other sports, then it should be apples to apples. Football gets six state champions, why don't all other sports? Seems like we're cheating a lot of kids out of the thrill of a state title by not offering six soccer classes. Agree? Last graph, I'm not saying anything of the sort. I'm saying football shouldn't get to have it both ways. Twice as many classes as some sports, and six times as many as others doesn't seem fair. Why should football have six classes, when the kids who compete in other sports have to compete in three or less?

Wayne lost a huge rivalry game to Centerville last week, but they are the real deal. I picked them to win this region in or about week six. I'll stick with that, though it should be interesting. Moeller, X, Wayne, and even Colerain are solid contenders. I don't know much about the Columbus schools, and I have trust issues with the Lakota schools winning at this level.

FYI, Centerville was the top seed in the region. They lost tonight. I still think Wayne is the favorite, but it's going to be fun to watch the next few weeks.

To answer your initial bolded question though; no it's moronic.

All of those sports have ONE class. Football has SIX. Not two, three, five, but SIX. Why are we comparing? Put all the football teams in one class, and I say let them all in. Divide them six times as much as you do the other sports and still tell me this is a fair comparision? Not. Why do I have to make this same point every year?

Nice breakdown, and as mentioned these are eye opening numbers. The thing that strikes me though is the number of games that had a running clock BEFORE halftime. If it's a 36 point spread in the first or second quarter, the two teams simply shouldn't be playing. Not a knock on anyone on either side, simply a fact. No one "gets better" by getting down 36 points 10 or 14 minutes into a game. No one on the other end wants to embarrass anyone, but they need to get to 36 to get the clock moving and they know they can do it in like 10 plays.

Timing raises my eyebrow on this move. I'm not sure why it would happen now. DeSales is a solid program, and will continue to do well. Crews won a lot of games there the first time around. It's a good place for his system. But, the Colts are always well coached, so it's not like the program needed a savior.

Clyde, thanks for the insight. To clarify, I was honestly asking if the kid got cut because of the timing. This is normally the time of year Ohio schools get started and make cuts. It was the timing of the move that raised the question, not the ability of the player. I've never seen him play. As has been pointed out correctly, the kid will be eligible, and I wish him the best at CCH. I still think the timing is a bit off, and raises questions about why now. But that's between the schools and the family involved.

Did Moeller cut him? Timing for a transfer seems a bit weird.

Hate to quote myself, but I'm doing so for correction. On the bolded, McNick is not in the same region as Alter. The Rockets are in the same region as Clinton-Massie, which is another threat in DIV. My bad.

Agreed on all points Nippert. I'd love PBS to be used as a site for second or third round games, but I don't see that happening.

I think this has been done to death, but I chime in every year. I'm not a fan of the six class system at all, and I'm not a fan of virtually every team in the state making the playoffs in an already watered down system. On Ram's point, I think most host schools lose money on first round playoff games. Money isn't the motivating factor. Football is an expensive sport, it's not the cash cow some would assume. I look at the first round brackets and some of the games make me cringe. Beechwood-Bracken County for example. The teams are in different stratosphere's. How is this game productive for anyone in any way?

Didn't Danville just lose to Frankfort? Granted, I don't know the particulars of that game, but that's not a good loss in my estimation. I'll take whoever comes out of the other region to the finals. NewCath, Newport, or Walton. In that order.

Trinity in 88. Clark County in 91. Covington Catholic in 87. Pretty confident in these picks.

Looks like round two of this region's playoffs will likely be, Lloyd at NewCath, and Newport at Walton. Two decent to good games. Very intrigued by a Newport/Walton game. Would this be a rematch?

100% in your camp on the quoted, and I didn't see the game. I have no idea who or how many people have dropped the "don't (didn't) want to be there," line as I typically just ignore the post entirely once I see that. My experience has proven to me this is a line given by someone who is watching (or coaching a youth game perhaps) and simply can't figure out why their team is getting beat. They have no technical answers, so it must be lack of effort, or lack of heart. 99.9% of the time effort nor heart have anything to do with it. The person shouting that at the windmill will never understand though. My educated guess is Cooper got beat because Dixie is bigger, stronger, and faster than Cooper at most positions. All the "want to" in the world isn't going to change that.

Indeed they are. Tough gauntlet to go throw beginning next week. Playoffs in this region should be really interesting this year. I'm really not sure who I'd pick as a favorite. But, X would be right there.

LaSalle, Moe, and X, share the GCL with 2-1 records. X is all but a lock to be crowned city champion when this week's coaches poll is released. I didn't see that coming in September. Elder goes 0-3 in conference play. I do think they are the worst of the four schools, but I doubt anyone really wants to play them in the first round of the playoffs. Looks like the Panthers will be heading to either Dayton or the Columbus area for round one, while Moeller and X should host. Not positive on Moe though, need a Lakota v Lakota score.

GCL North has strong a very strong title contender in Alter in DIV as well. McNick is in the mix to make a nice run in DIV too. Same region as Alter, but they could beat anyone in the region other than the Knights. LaSalle has a heck of a shot at the DII crown. In DI, I think it would be a stretch to see a GCL school win the title this year. In fact, a Dayton school could very well come out of region 2. If the GCL wins state titles in DI, DII, and DIV in the same year, I'm not sure what would be worse: the grumbling from public schools around the state about unfair advantage, or the all time high on the arrogance meter GCL supporters would reach.

Hoops player I believe. Not sure on his height and weight, but as I said in another thread, the kid is the best player on the football field a lot of nights. Excellent class 2A football player. Probably the best player in his district.

S.S. Crusader has taken on a lot of water the last month. Their weaknesses have been exploited. Trinity can win this game, question is how much do the Rocks risk to win it? Full playbook and starters both ways for four quarters, or do they go to the bench if they get down? I don't know. Game means much more to Moeller. Senior night, Harbin's seeding, etc. I'll take Moeller by 10. Side note, week 10 games in Kentucky are all but pointless. If I'm coaching, that's my bye week every year. Get the non-district games out of the way, play your district foes, then take this week off.

Newport wins easily. Newport is a good 2A team and Holmes is terrible.
