  1. Well aware of the rules. What we are referring to is what was posted this summer. What was posted was she must be Cleared. That's why we are mentioning it. Highlands person said she must be cleared or she wouldn't be playing. So what you are saying is she enrolled this summer, but Highlands didn't file her transfer paperwork?
  2. Celestial has been around forever, once rivaled the very top tier dining experiences in the entire city. Still, very solid. Great view, very nice choice for most any occasion. Jazz bar area has also been there forever. The view speaks for itself.
  3. On the bolded, you did read that here this summer, KL. It was said so matter-of-factly that we all had to assume it must be true. MC, obviously you read the same thing. No dog in this fight at all, just affirming that I also read the same posts on Martin this summer.
  4. Most folks around here have no idea about how good of a hitter Carew actually was. The dude could really get on base. He could also steal bases early in his career. Major problem for him, he played with the Twins for many years when they were terrible. The stat you posted is almost impossible, certainly a daunting stat. You guys can take Pete, Gywnn, I'll take Rod every day. BTW, he could run and stole a lot of bases too. One of the better base runners ever. But, he played with the Twins and they were awful.
  5. I heard folks on the radio say this was similar to Hurricane Kate, in 1985. I should remember that better, but I was in high school mode. On the radio it was said Kate didn't have high wind or a major cane, but it caused a lot of problems.
  6. Side note: CP has two really large, long looking, wooden coasters and there is never a line for either.
  7. First blush, highly disappointed this is what was chosen for KI. Intrigue and mystery aren't really something people want from a coaster. We aren't playing a role game. We want big, fast, and something like the cliffhanger Valravn gives at CP. Wooden coasters are rough, another one at KI isn't doing it for me. The Beast is nearly perfect. Why replicate it, or even try to? Build a CP Maverick, Gateway, or a just speed freak coaster like Top Thrill. KI has a lot going for it, but this ride isn't going to get it done, IMO.
  8. On the bolded, I get it. I honestly only stepped into the lobby because it seemed like a nice safe place to talk to my boss. I had zero idea it was an IRS, or any Federal building at all. My issue was with the way the security officer at the desk "showed me the door,". If she had told me I was in a Federal building and I could not "loiter" there, I'd get it. Had she shown just a bit of courtesy, it would have helped. Maybe I feel too entitled. I guess these folks have jobs to do and rules they must follow. My advice would only be, you are never bigger than your job, and can always be ready to provide any helpful service you can. In this case, a 15 second conversation with me would have gone a long way.
  9. Looks like the 2016 version is getting ready to roll. Opening night is Aug. 8.
  10. Mid-day, I head to Covington, because it's the time of year to renew auto tags, and also this happens to be the year my driver's license expires. Two birds with one stone, and at a time of day I knew from my vantage point there wouldn't be a lot of traffic or lines. Old courthouse, tags were quick and easy. Looked around for the driver's license renewal area and it's in the new courthouse. No biggie. In the meantime, I'm getting major phone calls and texts on personnel issues at work. I expected these could come up, as they were being discussed all week. I figure I'll give a call to my boss, and sort things out. Step into a building lobby to do so and begin convo...I'm told by a guard it's a "secure" building and I need to leave. I'm a bit taken aback, but okay...I ask if I can next door to what looks like a restaurant. Guard is of no help. I walk in and the place is closing (likely a breakfast, lunch type place and it's getting closer to 3 by now.) No issues. I have a 20 minute convo, and everything is sorted out. Feel I owe someone something for allowing me to sit there, so I tip the manager, waitress, etc. $5 for allowing me a space to talk. Then, walk across the street to the new courthouse to renew license. 6 dudes in deputies uniforms, 4 of whom just sit against the wall and do zero except try to look important but mostly look out of shape. Get license renewed, head back out the same way I came in, and see same 4 guys, again just hanging out. My takes: 1. While I got lucky and my tags were quick and easy, based on the line. In listening to folks nearby, seems this is a very difficult task for some people to accomplish. Lots of stories, lots of family members with them, etc. I feel for the clerks who deal with that each day. To their credit, they seemed on top of it and handled it well. I like to actually to visit the courthouse each year for this endeavor, although I may need to step away from that and explore online and mail options beginning next year. 2. The first building I went to for my phone convo turned out to be the new IRS building. I saw a nice lobby to get off the street noise and went inside. I figured my appearance and demeanor would allow me to be okay there for a few (20) minutes. The guard there was less than polite or helpful, but I easily moved along. I really wanted to circle back to this guard and remind her, that the nice, new, IRS building she works in is a product of my tax dollars, as is her salary. 3. After dealing with the above, and going through the protocol to enter the new courthouse, I was a little surprised to see 4 deputies holding up a wall and doing absolutely nothing. I knew where the driver's license renewal area was, but decided to walk around like a moron for a minute and then go ask them, politely, if they could help me find my way. As a group, they seemed perturbed that I'd bother them. Final take: Don't read me as angry or anti-this or that. Zero chance. Also zero chance I'm big on folks making money on my dime while not offering to be at least a little helpful or considerate. It's a bad look. And, it makes others who wear similar uniforms and do all the right things have to work harder and take more abuse than they deserve. My two cents.
  11. I was in attendance at the Heart, JJ, and Cheap Trick show. We sat in a comfy place on the lawn. Not the best of views, but we saw the acts from the stage. Looks like a lot of friends were also there. I love outdoor shows. Lot's of people I half recognized, wish they had reminded of faces to put with names. Great show, cut a little short. Terrible traffic issues. First time for me on the traffic issue. Had to go into NASCAR mode, or I may still be sitting behind the guy who thought it was okay to let EVERYONE in front of him. CPS didn't help much, nor did Riverbend employees. And believe me, I asked. I now know where I will ever park again. I'll eat the tickets first.
  12. I'll go with: 1. Millennium Force CP (best ride EVER. It's Diamondback on steroids.) 2. Diamondback (great, sustained speed and it's a good, long ride.) 3. The Beast (the grandfather of the great ones, but if you ride it at night there may not be anything better.) 4. Top Thrill Dragster CP (you wanna go 120 mph on a coaster? I think that's top speed. Then you go straight up and hope you get over the hump. If not you fall backwards and start all over. Nice.) 5. Gatekeeper CP (It's like you are flying an open air stunt plane over Lake Erie early in the ride. Highly underrated IMO.) 6. ValRavn CP (major record holder for a coaster, CP's newest. Riding in the front row puts this in the top five.) 7. Maverick CP. (Traces of Flight of Fear, traces of Diamondback, some Banshee kicked in. Great coaster. Highly underrated.) 8. Banshee. (Toss up between it and Raptor IMO. KI's coaster gets the homer vote.) 9. Raptor CP. (see above.) 10. Wicked Twister CP. (Right on the lake. It's like a huge swing on a coaster. Similar to KI's Invertigo?. Can't remember the KI version's name.)
  13. At first blush I wondered how a 7 year-old kid was riding the Diamondback, much less starting a thread about the best coasters. Then, I remembered you big for your age. :thumb: Seriously, nice thread.
  14. Mostly this. But, if I have to narrow it down. The sun. Love getting some, actually seeing it more than 8 hours a day, and being able to walk outside without "bundling up". I'll also add: Barleycorn's Lakeside Park patio, Don Pablo's riverfront deck, walking along the Ohio in Smale Park or the old Serpentine Wall area, a big red smokey at a Red's game, church festivals, outdoor concerts, outdoor movies, the ATP tennis tournament, did I say not having to scrap a windshield in zero degree weather? Take away Christmas, football playoffs, and basketball and someone tell me again why they prefer winter?
  15. Frankly, I am surprised this has drawn out so long. Pure speculation on my part but when a hire at a school the size of Boone takes this long typically one of two things happened: Lack of qualified applicants and the administration basically started reaching out to people. or Someone who was pegged as the coach either didn't accept the job or something kept them from accepting it (ie background check surprise, etc.) Again, just speculation. But I can't understand why this has taken so long unless one of the two scenarios played out.
  16. Minor had a very brief stint at Bellevue, I don't think any of the Tiger faithful were sorry to see him leave. Had a brief stint at Finneytown where it ended badly (for him). Had a brief stint as girls coach at Holy Cross that ended with a lot of speculation.
  17. My bad, they kept Moeller in the 30's. First team to 40 won.
  18. Quick takes: Keith Jackson (many on here may not remember him) went on to have a solid career at Xavier. He was very good. Cumberland looks like a kid that can score right away for UC. That's nice for the Bearcats. If Wilmington is holding Moeller in the 40's and then holding Centerville in the 20's, they are doing something pretty well defensively. You get to this point in the DI tourny and you are playing teams full of kids that scored the ball all their life growing up.
  19. Bad thread, and a terrible post to start it. You call it an, "article," and then admit you know nothing about almost half the teams in the field. But, you go on to assume Trinity and NCC must have transfers. Nice work, chief. Every kid that plays for NCC entered the school as a freshman. So that's, that. The kid from Murray you mentioned, whose dad "got a position in the district," was hired as the basketball coach. Your choice of words in that instance certainly made it sound like you wanted to create something out of nothing. Sounds like the Dunbar kids you mentioned transferred before high school, correct? You had a chance to make this a viable thread, if you had solid information. Admitting you know almost nothing about half the teams is a bad place to start. You want to talk about something during the week off, start a best popcorn in the state thread, or a this was my ACT score thread. Both would be more interesting, to me especially the latter.
  20. My guess is it has happened, though I can't tell you when. They weren't always in the same district, and for a long time there was no seeding. Post Dickie Beal, Holmes wasn't real good from 82ish to 87ish. They easily could have missed the region a few times in those years. CovCath in 84ish forward wasn't winning any regional titles in the 80's. I'd look at those years, along with some random years during the 90's. If not then, you are going into the way back time machine.
  21. Thanks. Interesting situation here, if I'm following along. Kid leaves Holmes, goes to Newport. Works to graduate a year ahead of his class. Does not play his senior year (would have been junior year) in high school. But, he works out on the side knowing he's going to play in college. Someone get Paul Harvey on the phone real quick. I'd love to hear the rest of the....
  22. Wow indeed. I think this throws the 35th district seeding into a three-way tie for the top seed. Holmes is locked in as the four, but I guess Holy Cross, Beechwood, and CovCath will draw for the top spot.
