Division I Players From Kentucky High Schools

Recommended Posts

Vin Hoover did not play for the 1977 Kentucky team that went 10-1.

He must have already graduated.

You're right, he graduated from UK in 1976, although he claims to have paved the way for that season.

How long has WKU been D1?

WKU has just made the transition to FBS Division (Formerly D-1). They have been an independent with Notre Dame, Army, and Navy the past couple of years. The 2009 season will be their first full Sunbelt Conference season. They are eligible for conference championship this year and bowl eligible. They have become the 120th D-1 school. They open their season on Sept. 5 against Coach Kiffen and Company in Knoxville! Also have inked a four year deal to play Kentucky in 2010-2013. WKU home games in series will be at the Titan's stadium in Nashville to accommodate the expected crowds.

My guess is the early 90's. Before that they were in the OVC with EKU, Akron, Central Florida, Morehead, Murray, Middle Tenn State, Marshall, Tenn Chattanooga and a couple more that I can't remamber. While it was called D-1 AA, some people did not consider it D-1 football.

WKU went D1 last year first year.

I maintain a list of High School All-Americans on my website, and, while these lists do not indicate post-high school athletic careers, some of the older names may ring a bell as to where they went to high school. I could also use some help on school names for a few on the really old lists in which I only have a city name for the player: Kentucky High School Football All-Americans

It's Brent Grover from Highlands on the US Army list. You have it spelled wrong.
