Hilltopper2005
As a person who doesn't have ties to either team I must say that the incident was blown way out of proportion in my opinion. I think it's a shame the Lex Cath coach was suspended for this incident. The video sure didn't look that flagrant to me. It's all a part of the game until the final buzzer sounds. swamp thang
Just to make sure that everyone understands, according to the Herald Leader, the suspension was imposed by Lexington Catholic, not the KHSAA

NEERFAN
Sounds like a strange situation for the AD to overhear the coach's instructions.
doubledeuce
What did the coach do wrong?
scooterbob
Ridiculous. The coach did nothing wrong and "throwing" at another player is in the eyes of the beholder. Was the Lafayette player hit in the head? Did she have to leave the game? Was she injured? Shakespeare wrote about this type of overkill and it was called "Much Ado About Nothing". Neither the coach nor Kellie Cash should have had the "event" even mentioned to them. Ridiculous. By the way, why was Lafayette pressing. There are no 23 point shots available. welovethisgame
Why were the starters even in the game at this point? Nothing good could come from it. One of these nights a high calibur team is going to lose a vital player in the closing seconds to an unnecessary injury. Margin of victory means nothing unless your worried about the ratings. Your Daddy
They showed the video of the incident on WLEX-18 news last night. She was under the basket and threw a 2-handed chest pass right at the girl, hitting her in the stomach. She then stepped jumped inbounds and went after the loose ball. It didn't look particularly flagrant to me, but I obviously wasn't there.
sumoroyal
Why did she throw at the girl? She obviously wasn't trying to get the ball inbounds cause she hit what she was throwing at.
westsider
A suspension seems a bit harsh. Wouldn't a behind-the-scenes admonishment be enough? It makes me wonder if Hans' job is on the line, especially if LexCath doesn't win the 11th Region.
fishfry2k2
To set the record straight. The last three games between these schools have been blow outs going back to last year and each time when Catholic has substituted Lafayette has left their starters in the game and have begun pressing. The catholic coach called time out with 7 second left and told Kelly just to hand the ball to the girl guarding her so that Lafayette to get the lead under 20 points. Unfortunately a handing of the ball turned into a throw or toss.... but not at the coaches direction. Someone from Lafayette said they heard the Catholic coach tell her to throw the ball. Incorrect..I was in that huddle. Cash was in the game because Blake Ratliff had fouled out and Catholic only dresses 10 players. Coach Hans and Cash voluntarily took a game suspension because they regretted the incident and they knew it was not in the proper spirit of sportsmanship. Coach Hans regrets calling a time out with 7 seconds left must less asking Kellie to hand the ball to the girl guarding her. Before you say or think it I am not a Catholic apologist..but I do know the facts.
